Vip - March 5, 2005 10:25 AM (GMT)
ive been looking at goldfish alot and for some reason they have been growing on me look at the one in this pic i think its really nice! i want to build a huge pond in my backyard when i get around to doing it of course and i was wondering if Koi can live with other goldfish? or is this like putting a firemouth with a dovii? i really like them all but i want a huge range of goldfish! maybe i should trade in my 80 or so cichlids for goldfish.............nah.

some goldfish can be nice ;)
instead of wasting money on a pond you could clear out one of your tanks and put one or two in them

koi do well with other kinds of pond fish; however fancy goldfish, such as the one pictured, often loose out at feeing time due to them being slower and less assertive.
I had no luck keeping fancys with any other kind of pond fish (some 15+ year ago), most died due to starvation.
the pond idea sounds like a project you could post about, kind of like how I set up my pond, sort of thing.

I like keeping them in tanks as it is fun to have fancy types so you can see them.

Yea, I can see that tank with an Oscar and maybe a GT in it.
I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I just can't get into goldfish. Sorry.
It is amazing that some Koi can live as long as 30 years. Thats really something in a fish.

Koi can live a lot longer than that.
I really love Koi, but not hu-ge on Fancy's.
Today, our pond ice finally melted, and I saw a hu-ge batch of 15 or so Koi babies that lasted the winter, ranging between 3'' and 6''. Awesome fish IMO. Our pond is dark, covered in plants and moss, and the fish really stand out. I will get a pic for this thread in the morning.
Edit-- Haha, try to type hu-ge, as in exceptionally large. It confuses it for hug!

My mom has both koi, comets, amd sas?? something ... you know the white and orange kind. I have the last 2 but not any kois. The fish in her pond do great together. You just need to make sure that the ones you add in your pond can survive cold weather too. Black Moor's don't seem to survive here in the winter (tried it), as well as some others. The koi, fancy, comets and sa?? do great here.
