Wadda ya think ppl are they needed or are they not ?????

I donr use them, mine were a pain in tha arse cause they uprights would keep poping off. If you have an increased bio load sure, they can be beneficial, and some people with planted tanks recomend them for allowing water flow through the roots of their plants, helping diffusion, but i havnt used mine in years, i think i chucked it out actually. Anyone else?

There pointless. With cichlids I say they can do more harm than good as they trap alot of crap under the filter. As for plant growing etc etc well then I say they are very much needed.

i don't use them anymore, too much of a pain in the ass. i like my sand substrate and you can't use a ugf with sand.

yeah thats true cich1, i have sand in one of my tanks and im now going to change it to black sand.

Do you guys turn the gravel over when doing a water change or just take the crap off the surface? dummy

cich1 - June 7, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
when i used gravel i just stuck the siphon down in it and it sucked the crap out for me.:D

I keep mostly mbuna, they dig. Which makes the UG filters pointless... or at least alot less effective.

personaly i think they are crap. we lifted my buddies up after 2 months and there was sop much crap under neath that it was discusting. i would never use them.

UG filters are a waste of time IMO, they trap heaps and heaps of shit just under the surface! i just use a vac and move the gravel around and around to clean it! then do a water change!
