Title: Poopology?!
ladyjade1970 - June 13, 2005 04:54 AM (GMT)
I thought that I had read somewhere that if the fishes poop is stringy and whitish looking it could mean a problem?!
Does anyone know anything about this?
Some of my fish have slightly patchy/stringy looking poop and I don't know if that is normal!?
Help Please!

It can mean it has a parasite but it can also mean it didnt agree with its food as this happens to my cichlids every now and then. How are they now?

Yes it can mean parasite.
What are you feeding??

I am feeding a mixture of earthworm flakes, spirulina flakes, cichlid flakes, enriched flakes and general flake food. Mixed them all together.
Was gonna get cichlids and then changed my mind. LFS said that its ok to feed cichlid food to other fish. My angels & BP, of course don't complain!
As for the poop....they pretty much have it all the time. I read that you can feed your fish chopped/minced garlic and that will "worm" them, but didn't want to foul my tanks or hurt my fish.
Any ideas?
BTW...98% of my fish are livebearers...don't know if that will make a difference...just wanted to add!

How long has this been happening for??
Are any of your fish acting differently??
It might just be in the food you are feeding. I have heard about the garlic thing too but I dont know anything about it so it might help to ask some other people.

my GT was very withdrawn and was losing color and then i noticed the white feces. i started feeding him anti-parasite pellets by Jungle. i soak them in Seachem's Garlic Guard.he has his appetite back now and swims up to the front of the tank again to flare at me, so i think he's feeling better. with your livebearers you can just soak their normal food in the garlic guard. Kent makes a garlic additive called garlic xtreme that is supposed to be real good as well.
