Title: Guppies
Description: LOTS of them

ladyjade1970 - June 21, 2005 04:28 AM (GMT)
In our local classifieds a lady had 350+ guppies for sale for $18...including plants and snails, no tanks.

For a brief moment I was tempted... but then realized I would have to be :cuss: stupid to do that!

That is a LOT of guppies!!!!! She said she used to own a petstore and used to breed her own feeders....

Must not have had enough coffee when I contacted her! LOL

If she has resorted to listing them in the classifieds, she's probly already tried that but good idea anyway :lol2:

Lol, true. Or maybe Jade knows about an lfs that this lady doesn't. Or maybe Jade has some connections.

Dude, you can't ask $2 per guppy. They get them cheaper than that from the supplies. Try fifty cents or something and you'll still get your money's worth.

Wow, thats a hell load of guppies. I vote you should get a 350g tank and fill it with guppies just for the heck of it :)

I would purchase them, see if theres any good looking fish in there, keep them, and start a line or two depending. Sell the rest online, or feed them to your other fish. I currently have about 600 guppys.

No need for me to purchase them... I have about 20 fancy female guppies in my 150g tank who are ready to explode. That doesn't include my breeder tank that has 20 more.... let's see - that's 40 x 35 (min) = 1440 x 3 months >> 4320 guppies in 3 months! If I cull 90% that still leaves 432 !!! Anyone for guppy gumbo ?

btw: In the 70's I used to sell hb reds for $35 a trio. >> that would make this batch $5020.00 Even at $3. apiece it would be over $1k. :woo:

350 guppies isnt much :P Put a trio in a pond for a few months, and it will be full of babies ;) Trust me...had 2 tanks full when I came home from holidays. Selling online is a good idea..sell like $5 a trio and you will make a good profit :D

Have to make sure the trio is homozygous before you put them in the pond. Otherwise you may end up with 90% common feeder guppies. Mine will go for at least $ 15:00 a pair when I get them to where I want them... Another few years.
