Cool eel, how much did that cost ya?

I like the looks of one of the Malawi eels, Mastacembelus or Aethiomastacembelus sp. "Rosette". I haven't seen them around though.

Thanks Orbital, he was $40...he's still young, not any where near full grown.... so I figure I'll have him quite a few years...

He's been a great fish, adapted to pellets, flake, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and I suspect he's been sneaking some calvus cavier ;)

Hehe, I know my Multis have been sneaking alot of Hongi eggs. So do you have to seal the tank up really well to make sure he doesn't whodini on you? I've never kept any eels before myself. I know a guy that had a snowflake eel in his salt water setup and it got out somehow. :(

Ohhhh, pretty fish seedy! Man i want one! :P I have never seen any down! :(

Nice shots with your phone? or did u get a camera?

Oddball - July 4, 2005 12:25 PM (GMT)
Im envious, ive been after the banded/yellow tanganyikan eels for ages now and i want one :(

In the uk they are like gold dust and megba expensive

Seedy - July 4, 2005 06:20 PM (GMT)
Oddball...yeah, they aren't exactly cheap over here either....

Miagi, thanks! :)

Orbital, yes, I have had to seal the tank up pretty well...when I first got him, he criused the edges and made me very nervouse, I had to pick him up off the lid of the tank and put him back in the first day I got him home....now, he has mellowed out and lives under the pots or in the holey rock. he seems pretty content now...

Loki - January 3, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
im sorry to be a noob at this stuff but is he freshwater??

Snowy - January 3, 2007 07:25 AM (GMT)
Well, I wonder if Seedy still has it. But, the eel is most definitely fresh water seeing as it's from Lake Tanganyika, but I wouldn't try keeping it. Heck I wouldn't even try african cichlids yet. Requires too much care for my taste. Way too much. Maybe someday but not until I get a few more years into the hobby. Currently only have about 3-4 years.

seedy how was that eel easy to take care of and did you have any other eels before this one??
