Title: A guppie death question

photorah - July 10, 2005 06:38 AM (GMT)
We have a small 10 gallon guppie tank, of which we let breed and use the babies as food for our Cichlids.

In the tank are many females and as livebearers go are pregnant as usual not too soon after birthing the last brood. A week or two ago i noticed one of our females a yellow one was not getting fat and pregnant as usual and did not have her black spots. She proceded to become skinnier and yeasterday was having problems swimming. Today she was missing and I found her dead in the rocks.

Water paramiters are good and i compleated a 40 percent water change yesterday. All of the other fish are fine.

I cant explain why she died other then maybey of age, can anybody shed some light on what may have happend?

This is generally a result of Internal damage after giving birth, Its quiet common in female guppys who give birth in stressful conditions, another symptom is a sunken stomach, and sadleback can occure. Sorry for your loss.

Most likely is "hollow belly". Liver failure from stress.

Could be the female cannot be pregnate...cannot have babies. Infertility. I bought some albino females and they were like that.
