Title: This sorta pissed me off

BettaMomma - July 11, 2005 03:34 AM (GMT)
I went to PetSmart today to check on the bettas. They all looked good so I wandered over to the wall of tanks. I was looking at the african dwarf froggies (cuz my little Sandy Cheeks the adf died during the night last night :( ) and one of the employees came over and asked me if she could help me. So I asked her about ADFs just to see what she'd say.

She told me that they required a heated, filtered tank that was at least 2.5 gallons. SOOO... just to see what she would say, I said "Hmm.. darn. I have a little half gallon unheated, unfiltered tank that I was thinking of putting a frog in..." ANNNNNND... she said "NO! Frogs can't go in there. A betta would do really really well in there though."

So I said "All 19 of my bettas live in a heated 2.5G tank - no smaller."

and walked out.
and thought :eatit: as I left.

LoL! Go BettaMomma!

What size of home should adf's live in? I probably will never get one myself, but am interested into learning some about them. :)

Good job! I should try that myself to those :dickhead:

BettaMomma - July 11, 2005 04:32 AM (GMT)
Well I obviously don't know enough about them to pass on any advice.
I only had her for 4 days. She was playing and doing gymnastics last night and was floating today. I have no idea why, there's nothing physically wrong with her. :(

I want to get another one but not for a while.

Yeah, her little home was perfect. I don't know what the heck that person was talking about. Maybe I should bring a big needle to our Petsmart and start poking holes in all the lids and putting them on all the cups... :wistle:

Oh!! So we talked to the fish guy at the really awesome Walmart in Greenfield and he's SOOOO nice. And he actually knows about fish!! You'd just love him.

BettaMomma - July 11, 2005 05:47 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I probably would.

Do you think I should get another frog for the little tank? Or just forget it?
it would be okay for now cuz it stays warm in there most of the time but when it cools off in the fall I'll have to find her something heated.

Whattya think?

Wow, BettaMomma, I wouldn't have had the guts to test those people, I am too shy. Next time tell those :cuss: for me! Personally I would have gone with :die:

Most times I have more guts than brains. :)

It's rather liberating - once you let 'em have it it makes it easier the next time.

Yeah, I love how every person who works in stores like that will give you a different bit of advice.

One afternoon I was in PetSmart and one of the employees came over and asked me if he could help me with anything. I told him that my bettas were always having issues with their tails curling, shredding, etc. (to see what he'd say).

He paraded me right over to the MelaFix and told me I should use it in full strength, repeat the dosage every day and that it was impossible to overdose a fish with it. I told him my horror story with my 2 fish who are permanently disfigured from it and that YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN overdose a fish with it. He really didn't have anything to say back about it.

BettaMomma, if you get another ADF, I *highly* recommend you check out the FAQ section and the care sheet at: flippersandfins. Best information I have found to date on ADF care. I have 2 froggers (Lucy and Ethel) in a 5 gallon hex. They are very entertaining to watch, and pretty easy to keep. Generally speaking, 2-2 1/2 gallons per frog is recommended... y'know, they sell these *really cool* tanks called a mini-bow that would be perfect for one! Ever heard of those?

Thanks!!

I think i'm gonna hold off on gettin more froggies for a bit but if I do I'll definitely check that sheet out. I'm still pretty bummed out about sandy. I still dunno what happened. The only reason I got her is cuz I was doing a wellness check and her water was HORRIBLE. uugh

Anyway - yeah, I think I know what those minibow thingies are.
lol
