Title: Importing/buying from overseas...
Description: never have before...

MLH Fish - July 11, 2005 08:19 PM (GMT)
Hello everyone. :)

I drool over all of the gorgeous bettas that i see on Aquabid and on here, that came from Thailand and other places across the ocean from me.

Can anyone give me a step by step of what happens, the cost(an approx. i know it must vary), contact with Thai breeder and transhipper, etc.??? Who should i avoid(both Thai breeder and transhipper), etc. I'm looking for info kind of like what we did for Seedy and the first time betta owner thing...only a first time international order.

I really might want to do this in the future....

Only thing is, i'm scared to death of waiting for these gorgeous bettas and have them arrive DOA. So all of you from The States who have ordered/won an auction from Thailand and other places overseas, can you give me the low down on it?? I mean shiping time has to be way longer from overseas(don't the bettas have to be in quarantine??), then it is from state to state....and it took me 4 days to receive my crowntails here in the States(with the exception of my female, she came overnight, i didn't have a choice with my males).

Thanks a bunch!!! :)

Since I am an expert in here, LOL I would like to start off and gives out some tips for only USA buyer.
The auction are the basically the price of the fish you bid on.
Now you going to add $5.00 usd shiping per fish from Thailand to USA. Some breeder would like to add 3.5% paypal fees and some don't. it just depends. ALWAYS using Paypal to purchasing and if not turning out right, you still can complaint it to paypal and refund the money between 30 days.
After the fish arrived in USA, A usa transhipper going to take over and they usually did a great job. Mine is Linda and I trust her as always. She just next to my States and always arrival on time.
The charges is 0.60 tax per fish. 2.00 handling per fish, a foam box $5.00, and express shipment is $25.00. The more you get like 10 betta, the shipment will be 35.00 and keeps going up.
Total all up let said a betta cost 20.00.
20.00 +0.70 + 5.00 + 0.60 + 2.00 + 5.00 + 25.00= $58.30 total. :)

As my opinion, all the thailand breeders are nice to talk with and mostly they will do the transection. Before purchasing the betta, do look at his or her feedback. I will keep looking at the negative feedback who are the buyers too and are they reliable or fake. If you do feels that betta is right, then email him or her and asking more direct question about the betta. Ask him how long actually and how old it is. Is he can breed or not. Is there a female to go with. Makesure get smaller female.
If you want me to recommend you a seller, I will push you to get Dong's betta and he is a member here too. Sure he will guarrantee the fish you saw is what you get. Very healthy I tells ya. :) RIGHT DONG! I love your plakats the best!!! They are really great gems. :) Get his plakats while they last in aquabid. :)
In other halfmoon, Chok is great but expensive of course, Wasan is great too, nakorn is new and I just got some from him, boontiang is very nice and his betta do breed! Oh,,,, so many to listed..... Just pick what you want. :)
Tips too.
If you go to the closing section and a bunch of betta that didn't sold, you might go and email them and asked for discount. Sure they will give you. :)
As for others transhippers, I bet they all do the same thing here or else they will not be in business. Just pick the one near you. For me, Linda is the best and my pick. :) She will email me when the betta is ready to ship again and I don't have to worried where me betta goes.
Yes, always tell the seller who you want the betta to ship to and they will do that for you.
Another to add is Indonesia seller have a tendency to delay because they have to ship another way through Thailand and then to USA. I have one pair of orange plakat thats been buying for more than a month still in colorado right now. :) But they are going to be here tomorrow. :)

If you got a DOA, yes, you only get refund of the betta price so do take a picture in unopening beg. :)
If they send you the wrong betta, just tells them and show them to prove. They will send the right one to you but you have to pay all the shipping cost, tax and everything except the betta and the transhipping from thailand to USA. It is their fault. :)
