Title: Oddball sighted in Petsmart and lfs

South American Dragon/Dinosaur Fish? It's been named both things.

The one at Pets mart was Dinosaur Fish and the one at the lfs was dragon fish.

Petsmart also has that bichir that they call a Dinosaur eel, but this is something different...

I've seen it in the local petsmart as well as 1 of the lfs' that I do not support (because they run the walmart philosophy of money before fish care/health/feeding).

Anyone else heard of these, and what they're real name is?

Searching under this has brought me nothing...

they are actually Polyeupterus senegalus, or senegal bichir.

ah, yeah they sell those too. my best friend is a manager of the fish department and she says everytime they order them they end up dying not too long afterwards.

Theres a number of reasons why these fish dont do that well, 1 they are brackish and sometimes dont take well to adjusting to freshwater, 2 they are soft as a brush and easilly vitimised adn 3 they are very specialised filter feeders eating only tiny inverts that most people neglect to give them so they just starve to death

What kind of inverts do they eat????

Also, how big do they get???

A lfs lady told me I could have a "dragon fish" that is about as big around as a quarter and around 10" long... Do they get this big??

I am not sure she is sure what kind of fish she is talking about....she didn't know what a chinese algae eater was! LOL

Thanks for the info!
