Does anyone know anything about a fish called a Tadpole or (Raniceps) fish. I am new to topical fish keeping, I started in January. I have a community tank and everything is going swimmingly. I purchased a tadpole fish from my local dealer on a bit of a whim whilst shopping for plants. They have told me its social and that's about all. Its apparently a new fish! Does anyone know any more?

Thanks for the reply. That could be it. Mine is only about 2 inches long, as it is still young. Its a fresh water algae eater. Got it to help my plec with the cleaning. Not at home at the mo so I can't get you any pics. It has no fins though!

I think its it, they dont have any fins, but the bad news is its a Saltwater fish. Are you sure its a sucker?

Oh yes! It sucks more than my plec. It spends all day sucking, more often than not the front glass.

Just looking at the pic you sent, mine has no side fins, unless it is going to grow some its a different fish.

a picture would help me as these ids only throw up saltwater specemins

as far as i know there isnt a sw equivalent to a pleco so im assuming its a fw fish.

Looks like a bullfrog tadder, my lfs got one in by accident with some paddletail newts, we called him Horny (after the horned reaper, the main thing from Bullfrogs game dungeon keeper, not coz he was oversexed) and its not illegal to own or buy them in the uk, but very illegal to sell them

When I was a kid I had a 10 gallon with pond water, and many tadpoles. They would turn into tiny frogs with tails and I would let them go into the river. :)
