Hey guy whats the name of that fish witch looks the same as a auratus but it has dark blue stripes with black? and are they agressive?

A male auratus?
http://www.malawimayhem.com/profile_show.php?id=284Females are yellow, while males get a blue/black coloration...
or are you thinking of Melanochromis chipokae?
http://www.malawimayhem.com/profile_show.php?id=286Either way, they are both terrors..even for Mbuna....

Melanochromis chipokae thats the one thanks guys! are they ok with auratus males? he is going to be with him in my 180g with the RD

;) Bleah...that's a "mixing continents" question...I'm not sure I would recomend the mix...but that is a whole 'nother long ugly thread....
...But aggresion wise, yeah he'll be fine with the auratus...They are pretty aggresive fish, but you have a good sized tank....however, I have no clue how the RD will do with him....
Vip - March 28, 2005 08:23 AM (GMT)
cool, the RD doesnt worry me he isnt agressive towards fish but the auratus is very agressive towards others he killed 2 cons, i didnt see it but im pretty sure of it.

yeah the joanjohnsonae are wimps comparitively speaking. VIP sounds like your looking for the well death and destruction look in your tank

my big chipokae is a wimp. completely mellow. unless something picks on him, he never ever picks on anything. and no one ever picks on him becuase he's freaking huge.
i don't know if it's because my tank is hyperstocked or i just got the rare calm chipokae, but of all the fish in the tank, he's one of the fish i'm least worried about.

I put them a notch above auratus in aggression. Either way, those two fish are going to hate the sight of each other, especially with no other mbuna present. It will be interesting, even in that size tank. Adult male chipokae are not territorial in nature, they just "roam."
