Title: "blind" fish
TacoFrano - July 13, 2005 02:39 PM (GMT)
mornin everyone.
i saw that somepople have here blind fish. i am starting to think my extremely "stupid" fish is blind. i was wondering how you guys tell that your fish are blind? when he is put up by another fish he just looks at them and doesnt flare at all. and he only gets the food when it is sinking he chases it down. and when he goes up for air if he hits a bubble he goes insane.
lol i have no clue anyone got any ideas

BettaMomma has a blind betta, Louis. His eyes have a vacant look to them. I believe she has a picture of him posted under the veiltails topic that would give you an idea of what his look like. :)

Sorry for the double post, but I just checked and she does have a pic of him in Veiltails, however she has a better one showing his eyes thank the one in that post. You might PM her and ask her to post it or PM it to you. I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

TacoFrano - July 13, 2005 03:39 PM (GMT)

TacoFrano - July 13, 2005 04:04 PM (GMT)
ahh nevermind i found out what it was lol
BettaMomma - July 13, 2005 08:10 PM (GMT)
What's he doing in that photo? Just resting?
He actually looks somewhat under the weather.
If he chases food down to the bottom of the tank he is definitely not blind.
He might just be very very passive and not the most intelligent little guy on the planet.
Here's a few pics of Louis' eyes:

TacoFrano - July 13, 2005 08:23 PM (GMT)
lol EXTREMLY passive!!! hahaha
i looked up his symptoms and the only thing i can come up with is constapation
BettaMomma - July 13, 2005 08:25 PM (GMT)
What's he doing right now?
Cuz honestly - he looks pretty gravely ill in that photo up above.
I've seen many very sick fishies in my time. I think he looks like he might be one of them.
Is he eating and all that stuff?
Sounds like his belly is swollen.
Can you post another picture of him?
TacoFrano - July 13, 2005 08:32 PM (GMT)
that was in the middle of the night he was sleepin he usually sleeps like that. he hasn't been eating but he has just swimming around a little and staying close to the top for air. he has the symptoms of constipation. here is another picture taken today like 1 hour ago and he has poop handing from him
BettaMomma - July 13, 2005 08:39 PM (GMT)
Hmm - well he definitely looks better in the swimming photo :)
It was just kinda odd to see him laying on his side like that. I've never seen a betta lay like that. heh
What else is he doing?
His color is still pretty good but something looks not quite right about him.
Aaah well - you know him better than we all do.
TacoFrano - July 13, 2005 08:44 PM (GMT)
his color is fine like normal and 2 of my other fish sleep like that its really weird
TacoFrano - July 13, 2005 08:45 PM (GMT)
and here is saber doing it it is soo cute to watch
BettaMomma - July 13, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
Do all your fish do that on a regular basis?
TacoFrano - July 13, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
yup first they move the marbles around and find the perfect spot. during the day they are perfectally active
Saucy - July 13, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
Ok, just my opinion, but it sounds like there's a collective problem here. It's really weird for bettas to lay. I mean, they rest, but not on their sides like that... as far as I've seen. And I have a handful of them.
How's your temperature?? One thing I'm thinking is that it could be too hot for them. I cranked up the temp in my 10-gal divided to get rid of some parasites and my one boy was laying on the bottom and didn't look so great.
There could be nothing wrong at all, it just seems really strange to me.
Saucy - July 13, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
Or, does it get colder in your house wherever you keep them at night? That's another thing... hmmm...

its about 78 they are acting very normal during the day they just might be exosted because they are very active
Saucy - July 13, 2005 09:25 PM (GMT)
Hmm... interesting. Well... I guess as long as they're eating and active, they're fine. Just seemed strange, you know? Never really think of fish as sleeping like people do! :lol2:

ccongratulations you have bettas that are werider than mine ! (i have a autistic ,a werid flarer.a manic deepressant ,a blind one and a normal one (wow)) . i have never seen one lay on their side. are his eyes always glowin like that or is it just the camara's fault?
eudielynn - July 14, 2005 12:15 PM (GMT)
I just wanted to chime in on the bettas sleeping on their sides. I have two that do that. Batista has scared the crap out of me several times by just flopping down on his side and not moving forever. Then when I jump up and run to the tank, he wakes up and takes off. Vince also sleeps laying on the bottom of the tank on the rocks. He will also sleep with his nose in the rock and his butt sticking up in the air. These fish are in two different tanks in two different states so I don't think it is a health issue. I just think some of them sleep weird.
50,000_tears - July 14, 2005 12:18 PM (GMT)
yeah my little lightning used to sleep on his side o_O not like that though he was just playin dead sleepin. something looks fuzzy about him.
