Title: Macaryn combo
Description: help if you will

OrkyBetta - July 14, 2005 01:47 AM (GMT)
finrot is the ultimate suck filled thing. I am about ready to piss on the faces of the construction workers who did something to my tap water the day before my water change day! Well, macaryn seems to be my one and only option until I get my hands on the IAL. Should I use macaryn, macaryn two, or both?

Actually, I'd just stick with clean water and a little salt before you just start medicating right away. See how he does then. If it doesn't start getting better in a couple days, hopefully your IAL will have come! Or try to find some Blackwater extract.

Yes, I'd like to piss on whatever happened to my well water so I can't use it now... those jerks. I'm thinking it could be Iron Bacteria, but it could be some weird phosphates, too... guess I'll never know.

Thanks saucy. When I first noticed the rot I did daily partial changes and added some salt. It only got worse and I progressively started medicating. I want to nip this before it turns to body rot, which I fear it might have on Merlin, who looks more peekid every day.

Ahhh, guess I didn't know what was wrong. You can do the Maracyn combo or just use Jungle Fungus Clear tabs. I hate finrot, too. You saw how Bo looks, yes? It sucks... if your IAL doesn't work (which it should), definitely invest in some colloidal. Good luck with him and definitely keep us updated on how he's doing.

OrkyBetta - July 14, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
I bought colloidal, but all it seemed to do was put brown scum on my decorations...and if anything made the rot worse...I am wondering if there is something wrong with it? It sais the ingredients are silver and deionized water. It is a brown liquid. Does this sound right?

Saucy - July 14, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)
Hmm... sounds like whatever is causing the fin rot is still there. Let's see how he does with the Maracyn combo, then start adding some drops of colloidal later.

OrkyBetta - July 14, 2005 04:57 AM (GMT)
Ok. So both? if I cant affrd both should I just go with the macaryn two? If I followed it as directed I will spend 40 bucks on meds if I do the combo... :o Should I still have my mom drop the IAL in while I'm gone?

Saucy - July 14, 2005 05:06 AM (GMT)
Another option is Tetracycline... it's kind of an all around anti-biotic, but it's only for gram-negative bacteria. I'd definitely look into getting both Maracyn 1 and 2 if you can. Just get the small packages if cost is an issue (sure is for me).

OrkyBetta - July 14, 2005 05:09 AM (GMT)
My tanks are 30 gallon and 10 gallon, plus the 2 gallon and the 1 gallon. The smaller packages just won't do to treat for 5 days. Especially with the reccommended double dose the first day.

Saucy - July 14, 2005 05:17 AM (GMT)
Ouch! Yeah... one bad thing about big tanks... ugh.

So all of your fish have fin rot? Is there any way you can maybe quarantine them... or empty the 30 down to 20. The fish should be fine for a few days.

Either that or have you tried salt dips?? I know people are really afraid of the, but I've done them on like 8 of my fish and they're all fine. It can really kick fin rot, Ich, parasites and pretty much anything else. I'd definitely give it a try along with the meds. (I use marine salt at 1/8th tsp per cup of water for 3-5 minutes, up to 3 times a day).

What a salt dip does is basically sluffs off all the old slime coat and gets the "skin" cells working overdrive. So all that activity is going to get the slime coat working again and fighting off disease. It also makes medications a LOT more effective. I'd invest about $5 in a small box of marine salt if I were you. It'll last you a LONG time.

OrkyBetta - July 14, 2005 05:35 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I've been doin salt dips, but all they do is stress my fish out, and they are getting weaker. So I stopped them. I *could* lower the tank to 20, but the isue is the filter current. It is killed with one of those bottle things, but it will be strong if I lower it downso the water has to fall...that was a really good idea though. A few of my quarantine tanks met a tragic fate when I dropped them in an attempt to move them. :banghead:

Hi girly- I sent out the IAL with directions for the fam. They should be able to manage, and hopefully it HELPS! :(

BettaMomma - July 14, 2005 04:44 PM (GMT)
psst - I PM'd you back!!

OrkyBetta - July 14, 2005 08:42 PM (GMT)
Seahorse, you are a goddess. THANK YOU!  :urock:

thanks so much to everyone else, too. I've been losing my head a bit.

BettaMomma - July 14, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
It's totally understandable.
Finrot is the devil himself in a disease for sure.

Seahorse - July 14, 2005 08:50 PM (GMT)
Well dropsy must be the intern!

OrkyBetta - July 15, 2005 07:14 AM (GMT)
Lol. Yeah I heard dropsy sucks too. And columnaris, it took my all time favorite betta. It made him die a horrible, excrutiating death, forcing me to helplessly watch his misery. Sorry, I'm still miffed on that one.

BettaMomma - July 15, 2005 01:19 PM (GMT)
I agree.
Those 2 are the worst in my book too.

Uugh.
