Title: Water changin water
Description: right down the drain. OR...

My 10G girly tank sits very near my patio door.
A few weeks ago I decided that, rather than haul the pans of syphoned out water to the sink or tub to dump, I'd just step outside and dump the fish water on my plants.
MAN are they growing like mad. It's the best darn fertilizer on earth.
Just thought I'd share!

get a very long syphon hose, and just walk over and water the plants as it's draining

We use fish water on our outside plants too. Works better than any fertilizer we've bought. You should see our hostas, they get it the most. :)

:umm: That would actually work. My tank sits literally like 1 foot away from the patio door - it's around the corner so no sunlight comes in but that would work with the vauum I already have!!!
My flowers all look like they're on steroids. LOVE it!

I ran a hose from the 65 in the living room out the front door a few weeks back to water the wife's flowers. She came home from work & just shook her head.
When I clean filters in a 5 gallon bucket I dump the grungy water on they flowers, veggies, bushes, whatever looks thirsty. I've been doing this for a while, awesome free fertilizer.
The hose out the front door was a new trick. I love to do those sort of things just to see her reaction. It's a miracle she has tolerated me this long.

What a great idea! I cleaned four of my tanks yesterday and put the water on one of my roses and my nasturtium. Will have to see what happens since Nasturtium don't really like to be fertilized, but they were kind of stunted so I had to try something. Will have to try it on my indoor plants next. I have a China Doll that isn't doing well for some reason.

BP, i did not know this about nasturtiums. We have been fertilizing ours, b/c they weren't doing very well. They were growing alright...but hadn't flowered yet. So my dad started fertilizing them with the other flowers...and now they are blooming up a storm. I'll keep an eye on them and if they start looking bad, i'll tell him to cut back on fertilizing...i think he only does it once a month.
Thanks for the tip. :)

I should start doing that too, taking out old water and dumping it on the burning lawn.
BettaMomma - July 17, 2005 07:32 AM (GMT)
OOOH - that's a great idea!!!
You COULD start dumping it on certain spots on the lawn so it greens up in certain spots - spelling out words in green!
