Title: Dry scales??

Saucy - July 17, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
So my DT girl, Arlene, is sick. I make it a point each day to sit and inspect my sorority tank for at least 15 minutes each day. I noticed what looks like dry scales on her side. It doesn't look like fungus, just that her scales are almost... peeling? I'll try and get a better pic when I actually have my camera, but for now, we'll have to deal with my mom's macro setting.

It's just on her one side. I have her quarantined right now with some blackwater extract and some colloidal. Help please!

And another even worse pic... ugh

Hate to say it but peeling skin is one of the first signs of columnaris.
If that's what it is, it'll start spreading like wildfire.
Get her on some maracyn, excessive amts of stress coat and lower her temp.

That sucks!

YACK! Is that what it is Bettamomma? It might be bacteria or fungus infection. I have a red female that Kelly help me to bid on at Texas that a spot of scales just gone suddenly like in the picture but more grouping. In the beginning it just like dry scales. Mine has been sick until have to soak into heavy indian almond leaf solution until she heels. The red female have a white spot on the area now without scales I believe. It looks like cured. She still healthy and so far she is back to normal. No plan to breed her so she is ok in her own 1 gal tupperware.
Sauce. you might try early to soak her in the IAL solution even she is still healthy and see what will happen.

Dude!!! So I came home tonight and looked at her, expecting it to be worse... but it's ALL GONE!! Not a spot of the dry scales at all. I was SO relieved... cause a columnaris outbreak in my 20-gallon would spell disaster... I am SO happy it's not columnaris.

Anywho, here's a pic of her. The whitish spots aren't fungus like they appear, just the way her coloring is. I'm just so amazed. Colloidal and Blackwater with JF Clear tabs... the UBER magic juice!!

Wou, you add coloidial, Interesting. I thought IAL and J/F clear is good enough. LOL Where you get those coloidial? I need to try to get some of those.

Well, you can get colloidal silver at your nearest GNC or Vitamin Store... but I'd suggest getting it online. Make sure you get around 550 ppm (parts per million) or around there. You don't have to use as much then. The one from GNC is only about 10 ppm, so I have to use quite a bit at a time.

I just figured... well, colloidal works for everything else, so why not dry scales?!

Hmm - I wonder if she might not have scraped herself on something. That's possible too.

Glad to hear she's better :)

What I had suggested yesterday when I saw her, was maybe she got into a tift with one of the other hags in the tank () and instead of a fin being nipped she just got a chunk chomped out ot her instead. could be.

Could very possibly be.
