Title: It was an accident, I swear!
Description: New fry in the tank....

Ritsuko Nashida - March 28, 2005 02:21 AM (GMT)

Got lucky last night :o . During a break from building a new stand for a 75 gallon Reef tank/Sump I am soon setting up, I took a minute out to divy out some scooby snacks to my feeder Guppies. And low and behold there were an extra, three little tiny ones in there :P !

What a suprise! I was sure the Feeders were a bit to small to be going forth and multiplying this soon. Its a shame that its a new tank and sparesly planted at this point other wise I might have had a few more survive! Prehaps a little later down the road things will be a little more survivable as the planted tank fills out some more.

Here is a link to a pic of my humble little stab at a Freshwater Planted Tank. Feel free to critique as I can use all the help I can get I am sure....

Thanks, I appreciate it. Hopefully this little endevour will work out well enough and I can justify a bigger and nicer Planted Tank!

Looks to me like you're off to a really great start! I've tried (half-heartedly) in the past to do a planted tank and now I've got a 35 hex that I have some amazon sword in. I hope to try again to get it going right.

I hope you can update us with your progress on this tank, I think it looks great already!

Wish i could breed feeders :(

Vip - April 3, 2005 10:09 AM (GMT)
why dont you steve? in summer just get a large platice bucket or what ever and chuck some guppys in it, i have heard of this done heaps of times and some people use old barth tubs from like junk yards n stuff fill them up with water and plants and thats it, they breed like nuts!

Yeah Vip had that idea and was all ready to set it up with an old bath tub. But my mum almost died at the thought of having an old bath tub in her display garden.  So now I just feed white bait.

my dad wants to do something like that but use a large cichlid instead an get a big kiddy pool and set it out in the summer with a top on it to keep birds and other things out. Just to watch it grow. We would than either give it to a lfs at the end of summer or bring it inside.

Have you considered a Rubber Maid poly tank commonly used for cattle water troughs. They have a removable plug for draining and such. I have seen them used like this many times before and I used one as a propagation tank for corals....

Dont give up that easy! This is much too cool a hobby. I thought it was rather simple. I just picked up a few helpful tips here on the form and bam! It was a done deal and I havent had any experience with FW in years. Post your tank and equipment down in the planted forum and lets see if we can get it fixed up for you. I bet we could get that tank "banging" in no time!!!

Congrats! I myself am breeding feeders, although I have a really pretty male, I didn't want to spend all my money on the fancy guppies, I have got 6 fry,one got eaten. And mine were quite small when she had babies.
