Title: Pregnant Silver Lyretail Molly
Description: How Long?

Does anyone know the average a molly is pregnant, assuming all the conditions are perfect (ie temp, stats, etc) Mine seems to have been pregnant going on a month now. If she gets any bigger, her head is going to burst.

Mollies can be pregnant anywhere from a month, to two months, depending on the age and the size of the female, and the number of fry. And yes, they do often look like they are going to explode!

sometimes a big water change helps the process along

Mine drops fry usually every 28 to 35 days, I find that it helps to keep the tank around 75-76. It also seems at these temps I will get more males than females, warmer water I tend to get more females. I now have about 70 babies and 2 more females ready to drop in about 1 week.

Wow, thanks for the info. I did a water change, and nothing. The tank temp is like 80*, and yes she is still growing larger by the day

Sounds like you should expect a very large drop.

Mine was huge and pregnant for about three months, and just kept getting bigger until she finally gave birth and dropped well over 35 fry (when I stopped bothering to count). She was so big that her scales were starting to stick out, and I was getting worried she might have dropsy or something.
