Title: lighting suggestions

wooly526 - July 28, 2005 02:26 PM (GMT)
I want to upgrade from my single 92cm 30w to a twin fixture. Im pretty sure i will get a twin dalbarb 92cm ( its made for my tank ) but im unsure om the globes i should get. I have been told 30w isint enough for a planted tank of my size.

I have amazon swords, ambulia, baby tears and a few other unidentified plants in my tank.

My fish list is angelfish, kribensis, african buttefly cichlids, mixed corydoras and a sailfin plecostomus.

I dont want to upset my fish with an unsuitable strenght but i want to maximise my plant growth, so any suggestions would be helpful

Ooops, didnt see this one. The closer your bul;bs are to 7,000K the better, i have 6,700K which is the lowest i think for PC's.

How big is your tank and how much water does it hold?

my tank is about 50g, this will be my first lighting upgrade from mt standard setup so i want to get it right.

AIm for around 3Watts per galon if you aim to plant it big. This may be a problem as most normal T5's and T8's are only 30W's. You may have to add around 4. You can buy kits from DIY stores or pro lighting stores, and then just buy aquarium bulbs!

Hope that helped mate!~

Il go for PCs @ 6,500K. Plants grow and love the spectrum of 6,500-6,700K. PCs are bright and enough and they look nice under them. I currently have a twin 6500K PC under my 2ft planted and my Plants are growing crazy, even my Red Tiger Lotus are growing very welll.

Hope this helps mate
