Title: Collodial Silver dosage
Description: Anyone know?

AlexsDaddy - July 30, 2005 10:55 PM (GMT)
I got some 10 ppm collodial silver to see if it will help perk up a couple of my kids, but I don't know how much I should use per gallon. From what I have read about using it with fish, you can't really overdose with it, but I'm sure there's a minimum dosage for it to be effective. Any help is appreciated.

I have 550 ppm and I use 8 drops for 5 gallons.
What size tank are you talking about here?

AlexsDaddy - July 30, 2005 11:24 PM (GMT)
1-2.5 Gals. 550 ppm? Yikes! Strong stuff. The 10 ppm was the only one they had at the GNC closest to me.

Yeah - it comes in 1000 ppm too I guess. heh
for your 1gallons I'd probably put in 1/4 tsp.
For your 2.5G I'd probably go for 3/4 tsp.

Hope that helps!

 Thanks. Helps alot!

Hello, Saucy here - Yeah, I have 10 ppm also, but I use an eyedropper and just use a couple mLs. It's nearly impossible to overdose unless you're pouring the whole bottle, I guess. Hah. Hope the little guy starts getting better and the damage isn't so bad that it's permanent thus far.

Me too. He's had the swim bladder problem for quite some time, so there's a chance there's nothing that can be done about it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I don't want to hijack the topic, but I have a betta with the beginings of I think, dropsy. I read that any success, which is almost none was done with mega doses of collodial silver, any clue where I can buy some?

GNC in your local mall. Or over the internet.

Semper Fi - Maggie - from this site (AND her own - the Great Lakes Betta Society) - knows a lot about colloidal silver. I would PM her and see what she suggests.

Unfortunately, I don't think the 10ppm concentration is very effective unless you use A LOT of it. I bought the 1100ppm bottle and am hoping it will last a while.

What I read was using the 550ppm concentration, it's 8 drops/5 gallons for regular, ongoing maintenance. THREE TIMES that if you have a serious problem.

But I'd still get with Semper Fi...

bettabelieveit - July 31, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but the problem with getting anything decently concentrated is that you HAVE to buy it over the internet... and a fish with dropsy isn't going to wait, you know? Good luck with him!

I didn't buy mine online. I went to a good, independent health food store in town and they had it. I paid $63 for a 4oz bottle of the 1100ppm concentration. Considering the 550ppm is about $50 + shipping online, I thought I did pretty well.

GNC isn't going to have the stronger concentration. But if you can get to a better quality, less commercial health food store, you can probably get a deal too.

what are you using it for?

BettaMomma - August 1, 2005 12:51 AM (GMT)
If you have time to order it online, here's a good place to get it from:
http://www.n-ergetics.com/ecart/Scripts/pr...p?idProduct=251
That's where i ordered mine from. It took 3 days to get, and it was 34$ including shipping for an 8 oz. bottle of 500 ppm.

I'd really suggest that anyone that has any amount of bettas at least look into it and consider getting some. It is good for everything from dropsy to minor fin lesions.

It's my miracle drug.
Well, my fishs' miracle drug. :)

ahh kinda like loopy lettuce bettamomma?

justhal - August 1, 2005 11:30 AM (GMT)
Wow! that's a really good price, BettaMomma! 8 ounces??? I'll have to check that one out when I run low.

TacoFrano - I lost a fish recently, very unexpectedly. I thought it might be dropsy, but it wasn't real clear. I almost NEVER have trouble with my bettas, so it freaked me out and I wanted to make sure the others did well.

Also, I bought a few new fish a couple weeks ago (AND have 3 more coming this week! bad Hal...) and wondered if the silver would help them get through the stress of shipping. Maggie told me it's like the 'wonder drug' for bettas - she uses no other medication.

AND, it's good for the goldfish too. I recently overhauled my biggest goldfish aquarium and it went through a 'mini-cycle.' Billy, my giant oranda, got splits in his tail from the ammonia spike. Water changes and some c. sliver seemed to clear it all up.

Speaking of CS, I saw a guy with Argyria (Agyria???) at the Costco on Friday. He walked past us and when he was a far enough distance away my hubby wondered aloud (quietly to me) what was up with that guy and I was actually excited to have seen him after recent discussions about it. He was VERY, VERY dark grey, all over and he was balding so you could even see through his hair to his scalp which was nearly black. I immediately felt bad for being excited to see him though, poor guy's not a freak show. At least he couldn't have noticed, I was whispering and all.
