Read this. This explains that alot of the african cichlids derived from one species. So that goes to show that all cichlids in one way or another are hybrids. It's evolution. You can't stop evolution, well mabye in your tank.
evolution of cichlids
Not really.
Evolution is the creation of several species from one not the creation of one specie from two.
The cichlids are isolated geographically limiting genetic material in an area. As the fish evolves natural selection picks out more unwanted genetics until only the most capable remains. Evolution minimizes genes, in a way that creates the most capable fish. While hybridizing adds genes to create a random fish.
I personally stand the same way as most people, don't encourage it and if it happens don't sell it other then that it's not my business
