Title: Won't believe what we found!
Saucy - August 8, 2005 05:59 AM (GMT)
So Jason and I hit up the fish store today basically to see if I did have an ammonia spike that killed my dwarf puffer... We end up talking to the guy who does all the betta ordering and ask him if they ever get any wilds in. He points to this orb tank behind us and says, "You didn't see the imbellis over there?" So I'm freaking out because it's exactly what I was going to get for the 5-gallon MiniBow I have!!
There are two pairs in the tank... so we snatched them both (and now have an in with the lady who breeds them, hopefully). They also had ONE betta fusca that I almost got. Betta fusca are mouth-brooders! Maybe if I get another free tank... he was only $15.
Ok, so here are pics of the little ones in my 5-gallon... along with my new euripitus catfish.

And the cool catfish... just for kicks... :)

Ok, I'll let Jason have his computer back so he can post his pics, too.

Cool find!! You need bigger tank like 10 gallon. :) Even 20 or 30 is good. :) Great find!! :) I love those cute pictures. :)
Later I will move this to wild betta section. :)

bettabelieveit - August 8, 2005 02:06 PM (GMT)
Yeevia -- I am working on getting them a bigger tank, I think it would be more fun for them to have a bigger place, but for now they're enjoying their one room apartment  they come from a lady who lives in the area who breeds rare fish anabantoids and things, she just does wild types for bettas, was cool to find.

Saucy, I just love lil' face shots....makes you want to pinch their lil' cheeks!
I think I have those same lil' plants as you have too...:D
Jason- Will these guys get lil' bobble-heads in their tank too? :D
Yours are cute as well :)

Oh I'm sure they'll get somethin' :D I'll have to start eating more cereal! or hit up some rummage sales for cheap toys
jols - August 8, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
LoL :P
I'm not a cereal person anymore....I like eating bagles...wheat ones with honey-nut cream cheese...rox my sox! :drunk:
I bought Spongebob at Petco, Bill bought me Gary....I've been using them as decor on the table...but I think today, with having my pineapple caves completed for Stefano and Fatima...Spongebob will go with Stefano, Gary will be in with Fatima. ^_^
I found something neato too! Looooong time ago when I was a wee kid, I had a Little Mermaid birthday cake with a figurine of Ariel on it, I think Flounder is on it too...and that would be perfect for a tank! :D
When you get a lil' dude in there, post it :)

jols - Yeah, I guess I'm lucky getting those face shots. (and putting those compact fluorescents in my MiniBow helped, too... heh).
They're doing very well so far. We're working on getting a better home for Jason's, but it doesn't help being poor. We figure if we can at least get a 5-gallon for them, they'll be quite a bit happier.
They love following each other around... such cuties. I'd definitely suggest picking up a couple if you see them. :)
jols - August 8, 2005 04:32 PM (GMT)
They sound like oodles of fun :D Maybe someday I'll come across some, but I know I won't find any around here :P
I love straight on face shots...their widdo eyes and 'big lips' they just look like they want to give wee lil' kisses :)

Oh wow! You are so lucky to have found them! :)
BettasRFriends - August 9, 2005 01:11 AM (GMT)
Wow...I wish my LFS has wilds. You very lucky to find those pair, congrats :drunk:

So Mr. Imbellis is gone... looked for him when I got home this morning and found him dried up underneath the entertainment center... *cries* That's two fish dead in 24 hours... ugh...
Did contact the IAA people to see if I can get ahold of the lady who has them so I don't have to pay shipping off of their site.
BettasRFriends - Yeah, this place isn't just a fish store... it's the UBER fish store... over 350 tanks. And it's the largest fish store in the Midwest.
Let's hope there are no more deaths this month... too much.
jols - August 9, 2005 11:53 AM (GMT)
I'm sorry Mr. Imbellis is gone so soon....hoping you can get another one soonly. *hugs*
BettaMomma - August 9, 2005 01:39 PM (GMT)
Poor litttle guy.
You would think that they would think of what will happen to them once they jump.
Hang in there - these things seem to go in streaks.
Saucy - August 9, 2005 01:50 PM (GMT)
God DAMMIT!!!! So I just look... and the little girl has jumped out, too. I have no idea from where, but she's dead... ugh. This week SUCKS!!!
justhal - August 9, 2005 02:17 PM (GMT)
Don't you have a cover for the tank???
OohFeeshy - August 9, 2005 03:16 PM (GMT)
Aww, that sucks. Hopefully the other pair will spawn... or at least not commit suicide :)
feralcelt2 - August 9, 2005 03:23 PM (GMT)
omg..
Im so sorry, Ive heard these little guys can jump through the tiniest space
hope you can find more imbellises
Saucy - August 9, 2005 07:22 PM (GMT)
Yes, they're in a MiniBow. The boy jumped out through the heater hole because I forgot it was still open, and who knows how the girl jumped out... gah...
50,000_tears - August 9, 2005 08:18 PM (GMT)
aw shit and i wanted babies :bye: mr and mrs Imbellis :(
Saucy - August 9, 2005 09:07 PM (GMT)
Jason still has his pair... and they were quite frisky yesterday. Hopefully the IAA lady will get back to me about what else she has... like betta fusca (a mouthbrooder!!) or coccinas... still sucks, though.
OrkyBetta - August 10, 2005 02:28 AM (GMT)
You have no idea how much those look like my Dory. like, identical. The striped eyes, the stripes in general, the color, the shape of the fins, oh my gosh I wonder if Dory is an imbellis or something simaler, because I've never seen a female that is her teeny size (barely an inch) or that looks like her. And to think I got her for a dollar.
