Title: Another rescue?
Description: But I haven't seen her yet.

Well, I have a co-worker by the name of Cindy who has just jumped onto the betta bus with both feet. She bought a male and two females a few weeks ago and has given me daily updates on them! Monday while I was off with the hubby just home from the hospital, my son told me that she came into my office carrying a sick betta in a bowl and was looking for me. She had gone to Walmart to pick up some supplies I'd told her that she needed and she saw this little female betta cowering in a corner of a tank full of tiger barbs. She had no fins, they had all been chewed off. Cindy didn't know what to do for her so she decided to buy her and give her to me to help. When I wasn't here she freaked out, but my son called me at home and I was able to put her in touch with another employee who keeps tropical fish to help her.
They got some of my aged and treated water that I keep at work for water changes and changed out her water first. They said she immediately started to perk up. The other lady Anita, took her home and has been keeping an eye on her. They told me today that she had eaten one pellet yesterday and that she seemed to be a little better.
Cindy wants me to have her, but I told her to let Anita keep her until she is a little stronger, I don't want to stress her out anymore than can be helped and Anita checked with me about what was in the water so she could keep it as close to mine as possible.
I'm not real sure I want to encourage people to buy sick bettas and give them to me, as much as I love them, but I guess one more girl won't make a big difference in my girlie tank.
Anyway, does it count as a rescue if someone else does it without your knowledge???

Yes it ABSOLUTELY does! lol
How sweet. :)
It was like rushing to the betta emergency room.
Keep us updated on her.
On a side note - HOW'S THE HUBBY!?? :)

Doing really well all things considered. I got him home Saturday evening, he slept most of the day Sunday, (home in his own bed and all) and he's been on overdrive ever since. I'm having to practically tie him down. He keeps slipping out of the house when I'm not looking and I find him down by the creek or over at one of the neighbors' homes. He's so bad!!! But I'd much rather have him like this than laying in the ICU unit at the hospital.
I'm waiting to name the new girl until I see her. I'm really pulling for her, but I think Anita's getting attached to her and may want to keep her. If she does that's fine with me, I know she'll have a good home.

Excellent news all around!
Tell the hubby I'm so glad he's doing better.
And we're all waiting to hear more details about the little girl as soon as you know more. :)

Well, Anita says the new girlie is doing much better. She doesn't want to keep her since she has gouramis and tiger barbs and doesn't want to branch out into bettas. (I don't know what's wrong with her. She seems okay otherwise.) Anyway, she is going to keep the girlie a little longer so she can grow some fins back and then she's going to bring her in to me to take home. Cindy has named her "Morning Glory". We'll fix that when she moves to our house.

LMAO - you crack me up.
Hey, how's the little girly that got Jasper's old tank doing, anyway???
eudielynn - August 30, 2005 06:07 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure if it was Amy Rose or Lily that got it, but to hear Cindy tell it they are the most beautiful, intellegent, wonderful fish that ever lived so I'd say she's doing fine.

AWESOME. Very glad to hear. :woo:

UPDATE - got an e-mail from Anita this morning telling me that the betta was eating and doing great, but yesterday morning she had a film of bubbles in the top of the tank. Anita did a water change, but the bubbles were back this morning. She thought either she was doing something wrong or her water quality had gone bad.
I explained to her that it wasn't unheard of for a female to build a bubblenest and I was sure that was what she was running into. I think I've created another betta fiend. :smoke:

LOL!
That's awesome. Another one bites the dust, so shall we say.
Hey - just a thought.. Is it possible it could be a male? Maybe?
eudielynn - September 7, 2005 04:45 PM (GMT)
:hmm: Hmmmm. That's a thought! I've never actually seen her, Anita took her home with her while I was off with the hubby, so it's very possible. I'll have to have her check for the ovipositor to be sure.
Saucy - September 7, 2005 05:32 PM (GMT)
Jason's females ALWAYS have wannabe bubblenests in their tank. When my girls were unfiltered, they did, too. At least a line of bubbles across the top of the tank... hah. Horny things
eudielynn - September 7, 2005 06:49 PM (GMT)
Saucy, that's probably the case here. I did e-mail Anita back to check for the ovipositor and she replied that she has been wondering the same thing. She said the betta had no fins at all when she first saw her, so she isn't sure it's a female. She's just been going on what Cindy told her as I have. She's going to check tonight, so we should know for sure tomorrow.
