For those of you that live in Canada.. lol
I work at Tim Horton's. Not a whole lot of people are aware of this, but the girls that work at Timmy's get tips. I say not aware because my boyfriend's aunt just found out a few days ago about it, and she's been going to Timmy's her whole life.
Now, you're probably thinking 'Well, why don't we tip the kids that work at McDonald's or Wendy's?'
To tell you the truth, I don't know. But think about the things Timmy's girls go through [and I keep saying girls since we only have one guy who works there and he's totally flaming] to serve you.
We burn ourselves at least once an hour. Those coffee pots are fucking hot, and the tea?! Oh man, that water's about 180C! And when you're making tea with the bag instead of steeped, that water splashes all over your damned arms.
Making coffee? Chances are you're going to get burned. Especially when stirring an extra large black with three sugars.
Iced capps? You ask for a small with milk in it, it's going to end up on the floor. That mixer makes the bloody thing explode. And what does it hit on the way down? The Timmy's girl getting it for you.
Or even better, when you go through drive thru and order 3 toasted sandwiches and two soup combos, plus six coffees, a dozen NOT assorted donuts that you pick out from the speaker, and two dozen cookies. And then when you get up to the window; "Oh, can you add 4 medium iced capps onto that, please?" ...Those take 30 seconds each. Congrats, you just pissed off everyone behind you in line.
Not to mention we do this all for minimum wage, and 8 hour shifts that are either 7-3, 3-11, or 11-7am. With two fifteen minute breaks. On our feet.
It's a good job, but it's a stressful job. Especially when you get someone like I had last night. She asked for a small iced capp with chocolate milk. Which automatically means it's going to end up half on the floor, half on me because the thinner consistency of the milk vs. cream makes it easier to fly about.
I repeated the order back to her, she said that was right, so it was $1.92 and come on up to the window.
She gets there and gets pissed cos it was made with chocolate milk instead of white milk, so I had to go back and make it again. Of course, it gets all over my shirt. But when I repeated it I'd said CHOCOLATE milk.. everyone else heard it on the speaker, but whatever. And then she called me a bitch for screwing up and drove away.
Anyway, back to the point here.
So Timmy's girls get tips. They're good tips too. A quarter for a coffee here, a dollar for a sandwich and soup combo there.. it's really nice, totally unnecessary by the customers but they do it anyway. And we know so many of them by name and coffee order as well, so that just makes it even better.
From the past week and a half I've been saving half my tips in a cup, and using the other half on groceries and stuff like that.
After a week and a half, I have $63.06 in change.
And you KNOW you wanna see what that looks like in change.

That's it in a pile.
But this one's even better.. I did this for BettaMomma/Jennifer.. it looks like a lot more spread out.

Yeah.. I like my tips :)
