Title: A WalMart story...
BettaMomma - August 27, 2005 09:25 PM (GMT)
Well, most of are expecting me to rant and rave right now. Well I'm not going to. This time, I'm very happy to say that I went to WalMart today and found something that made me REALLY happy.
I decided to do a wellness check, and normally when I am on my way to them, I start to feel my adrenaline start to boil. Well, for some reason today - I was cool and calm all the way there and into the store. I got to the fish section and the tanks were sparkly clean, the betta cups were pretty clean and every single one of them was totally healthy. So were the snails & frogs.
Anyway - I hadn't been in that aisle for more than 15 seconds when a woman approached me and asked me if I needed any help. I told her no thanks, and that I'd find WAY more than I needed on my own in that aisle. I was SOOOOOOO excited that the store has finally cleaned up its act that (yes, the boycott is officially over - for now, anyway) I bought 3 - 1g minibows (teal, blue and purple), then headed back to the crafts section and bought flat marbles for them all. (these tanks are for the fishies that are getting shipped to me this week - YAY!!)
After I paid, I left the store... got in my car... and called the store manager. I told him I was really impressed with how the store had cleaned up their act - and he told me that he remembered me from speaking with me back when I used to call and complain. He told me that after having heard from people like me so often, he lobbied to get people hired on the weekends that knew about fish, or got them some training, and he said they gave the woman who ran the fish dept. a bigger budget for fish care & food and got her all new equipment, including filtration system. AND he said thanks for caring, thanks for taking the time and he really appreciated hearing the good things as well as the bad.
So hooray for lobbying - keep it up people, it DOES WORK. :)

That is SUPER!!!!! jay :drunk: :woo: !!!
How wonderful that more than one person complained, but EVEN more so that the manager acutally LISTENED. That is wonderful, great, stupendious news, I'm very happy for you and the fish!
BettaMomma - August 27, 2005 09:43 PM (GMT)
Yep, I think that was the most exciting part for me too - that other people had actually taken the time to call too.
Hooray!

TacoFrano - August 28, 2005 01:05 AM (GMT)
how are those 1g mini bows thet look really nice, what kind of filters are in them?
BettaMomma - August 28, 2005 01:57 AM (GMT)
50000 - call them!
Call the manager, and then ask that person for the district manager's phone number and call them too. Go in there all the time and do the same thing if they have it coming.
TF - i LOVE them. They're perfect for little in-betweener tanks... I had little mr. krabbs in a 1/2 betta keeper because of a pretty severe swim bladder problem after I first got him. He got better pretty quickly, so I upgraded just today him to a 1g minibow. They have an undergravel filter that kicks up some pretty high current - I just set it aside and didn't use it. I'll be doing 100% water changes anyway, and I think that UGFs are not that effective in a tank that size anyway. I also got him a little arch - he thinks he's in heaven :)
They're SUPER cute. I'll go see if I can take a pic of mr. k's tank. He got new flat marbles and everything.

Just goes to show what your persistance will get you. :P

Woohoo, that's GREAT to hear, BM! My Walmart just recently started caring for their bettas after I did waterchanges on three FILTHY cups myself using dechlor off the shelf and left them a lovely passive-aggressive note on the betta shelf about it. Now they actually feed the bettas AND clean their water, neither of which was getting done before... ever!
BettaMomma - August 28, 2005 01:41 PM (GMT)
*hi five*
It really does pay to let them know that we don't like how they treat their fish. :)
eudielynn - August 29, 2005 08:06 PM (GMT)
Here, let me say it one more time.
ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!! jay jay jay

BettaMomma - August 31, 2005 01:22 AM (GMT)
Awww.. you guys are sweet :)
Ya know - for a long time I was beginning to doubt that things would ever change. I stopped going into WalMarts everywhere for quite some time just because the stress, anger and heartbreak were really starting to wear on me.
I guess bitching and ranting and raving does make a diff.
I called the WM here and told them I appreciated their making changes, and I'm going to call the home office too.
I really would like to say to everyone who either asked for a call to be made, or actually made a call - WOOHOO! Our work seems like it's finally starting to pay off.
:drunk:
OH... and I would like to say that ONCE AGAIN today I went to the same WM as the other day - and they had a new shipment of bettas in. EVERY one of them was not only not sick, but they were all plump feisty BEAUTIFUL bettas. Half of them were cts, half vts, some delta females - they were all GORGEOUS fish. Not even one that was plain or ordinary looking.
I was very impressed, once again :)
OH - and I am Norweigan!! LOL
eudielynn - August 31, 2005 11:43 AM (GMT)
Hey - BettaGoddess!!!
Won't it be nice when we actually go looking for a pretty healthy betta to go in our tanks because we can't find any sick ones anymore???
:woo:
Vip - August 31, 2005 11:51 AM (GMT)

YES. That would be totally completely awesome, very much so.
Guess we'll just have to keep dragging home the sickies and turning them into healthy ones! :woo:

AND.... I was born and raised in MINNESOTA, which makes me a Packer fan firstly, Viking fan secondly. I would venture to be there aren't that many people in the world that will admit that.

I can fully relate. Basketball is the game around here. I was born a Kentucky Wildcat and will be one til the day I die. Then I moved to Indiana and became a Hoosier. I'm still not sure what a Hoosier is, but that's what I am.

How can you like the Vikings? I hate them and I live in Minnesota! I'm gonna be mad when Brett Favre retires though... oh well, at least the Packers will have Aman Green.
