Description: jaws

poor jaws has been isolated for about 2.5 months now. she has some sort of incurable fungus. small white patches that look a little cottony. she still has good energy and appetite, but these patches almost seem to eat away at the scales underneath. her belly has been growing and growing the last 2 weeks. i have fasted her a few days, fed her peas and today tried a salt bath. she was in view of a male, and i though it could be eggs, but she is still getting bigger, even though she can't see any boys!
:wtf:
i have treated her with jungle fungus clear, maracyn 2, tetracycline and now erythromycin. i also use colloidal silver and some salt when my fishes are sick.

any ideas? the girls in the big tank miss her!!

Hey there.
My little Mille just went thru the same thing.
The patches were on her back - they looked like someone had sort of stuck a screwdriver in and pried a big hunk out of her back. It looked nasty!!

Anyway... my guess is that it was columnaris. That's what I treated her for, and fungus too. I treated her with maracyn/maracyn2 combo for 5 days, followed up by maracyn2 and maroxy treatment for 5 more days. I kept her tank miraculously clean and dumped in extra stress coat, and had her water in the low 70's the entire time. She is just about ready to go back into the big tank.

My guess is that the big belly and the patches are from an infection, and that the m/m2 combo should take care of that.

Good luck!

Your bettas belly looks exactly like how my betta Zeus belly looks like. Hes also in issolation and I have been treating with maracyn 2 and am starting to treat with maracyn 2 and maracyn to see if that helps.
I am also starting to feed him the medicated fish food for internal parasties. Maybe you could try that with your girl?
Im at a loss as to what to do though because nothing seems to be helping him. BUT listen to BM. She has been the one who has been helping me with Zeus. She knows her stuff!
Good luck with your girl.

i was away for a day and a half and she is even FATTER!!! the "fungus spots" are still the same and she is as lively as usual!! i am at a loss. i have been looking for that maracyn plus stuff to no avail. i would rather use that than try to estimate the doses for both 1 and 2... :cuss:

Have you tried using anti-fungus from ap plus? It is good for fungus and fin rod treatment even the body fungus too. I put double dose when I change the water. I add IAL and a little bit of sea salt. :)

well, i tried a few days' respite from continuous medicating, and she only got more bloated (but still loved to eat, bless her!!). i started her back on an anti-fungal med (jungle) but she just kept getting worse. i came home today and found her dead. i had thought about putting her out of her misery, but she was so plucky and had made it so far, so i let her decide when to go. :rip:

her stomach was EXTREMELY bloated when i found her (even more than in the picture!). she must have had something internal which left her susceptible to the fungus on her back that i couldn't cure.

i wish i knew what the problem was... she didn't respond to any treatment... :?:

rest in peace jaws...
(she was the first betta to bite me... hence the name  )
