Title: Need Some Help
Description: Bloating, fungusy stuff, ect (HELP ME)
Styx - September 1, 2005 09:15 AM (GMT)
Okay, I'll list the sick fish and what not and give me your opinions of what meds to buy and treat them with...
(Listed in order of importance.)
Ekaitz - Extremely bloated. Seems his gut his full of air (probably liquid though). Almost transparent brown in color (his gut) and he's normally black all over. Listless, bright red in fins (blood streaks, not fin rot). I've been using APPlus Anti Bacterial with absolutely no results. Just trying the epsom salt tonight.
Devika - Has infected my entire tank with something (I'm pissed about that). My snails were temporarily moved in there and she got sick, now I have ten apple snails stuck in there. Guppies and two other females stuck in there with her infected ass. Treating the whole tank as a preventative. I thought she had fungus, but now I don't think so. Treating with Jungal fungus clear with no results, everyone else is fine. She used to have patches of fungus on her now her flesh is odd. In one spot near her tail it's whitish, like when you pour hydrogin peroxide on a cut and then wipe it away, and it's that weird white color- looks just like that. She also just developed a small wite dot on her "chin". Like a pimple it looks like.
Dynasty- It's been maybe four months now since she developed those same whitish pimply things. She's not my fish so she's never been in contact with any of my fish, but I thought I'd ask about her. She's active, colorful, eats great. But she keeps getting this raised white dots on her, as I said, they look like white pimples. some are the size of four of her regular scales, some are smaller. She's got at least ten and keeps getting more. She's been treated with tetracycline for over a month straight before with no results. She still gets it because unless she has the meds in there, she starts to pale and get listless. Other than that, her body is in perfect order. What does she have? What can we treat her with? She is a fat, red and gold veil tail from wal-mart but she is my sister's all time favorite fish.
Rose- mother of my fry (>_<). In the breeding tank she started to develope a large growth on her bottom lip, looks like someone just punched the daylights out of her and gave her a fat lip. It's the same color as the rest of her body. It gets larger every day. Today I was changing her water and she decided to flip out of the cup as I was pouring her back in to her tank. She apparently smacked her lip and it bled everywhere. I mean everywhere. I don't know what she has, I don't care anymore (so don't give me suggestions!), but anything I can do to make her more comfortable, or maybe help her?
Sienna- One of her gill plates puffs out. WTF? She seems otherwise normal, but she's seperated just in case. Other than that, there's nothing. I can't tell if her gill is swollen or what.
I think that's it...
I am doing my best to contain the illnesses of these fish. I wash my hands with anti-bacterial soap after each fish, I wipe down their tanks (outside) with clorox wipes, wipe down the counters with the same then spray it with lysol, then use Purell hand sanatizer a few times. After every WC of the sick fish. I try to wipe down everything I might have touched after touching their water. Anything else I can do to keep anything from spreading?
If anything happens to Rain (my DT female Tsunami baby from Yeevia) I might loose it. I always make sure I do her first or near the first to avoid getting anything on her. She's my absolute favorite female and because of that, she lives alone so no nasty bitches can pick on her. However, she is huuuuuge with eggs, how can I make her get rid of them? I can't breed her for at least three more months (tanks all full of fries). I need her to get rid of those eggs! Drop them Rain! Just let them go! You can make more! I freak out about her getting eggbound.
Okay, NOW that's it.
**Ignore all spelling errors and typos, it's three in the freakin morning and my back hurts.

Hey Styx...
The white pimples.... they sound like a parasite. I am going to guess that they are bigger than a grain of salt. (If it is the size of a grain of salt... up to about 1mm... it is ich.) I will have to look that up... but I remember someone else having the same issue. If you want to keep the applesnails... pull them before treating for parasites as those meds will kill inverts.
The white spot... is it kind of like a slimy patch (sour spot)... or fuzzy? It could be excess mucus... response to an irritation... or it could be an infection. I keep thinking columnaris... not quite right though...
Red streaking.... that sounds like septicimia. (Please excuze my spelling... going on no sleep here as well...) Internal infection... basically to the point where blood vessels have ruptured. You said the gut was bloated... what about the rest of him? Skinny? Normal? I am just trying to figure out if it is an internal parasite and moved into the realm of also having infection.
Puffed gill ... distorted gill plate.... gill disease possibly (bacterial infection). Try and take a look... make sure there isn't something in the gill making it puff out.
Oy vay.... you gots the crud going on in your tanks!! I know it sucks.... but there is hope. First things first.... test your water. Then do a water change. While doing this... grab a large dull object and beat yourself on the head repeatedly. OK... enough of the fun times... now head out and get something to kill those parasites. Lots of different ones on the market... pick a brand you are most comfortable with.. clout... Maracide...coppersafe (pull the inverts asap!)... or if you can get your hands on aquatronics meds... **sigh of dispair aquatronics is no more**
Dynasty... she too has parasites... they are feeding off of her. Did you by any chance forget to quarantine a new fish?
The applesnails you can pull and put into a temporary home if you have a spare 5g bucket and a small heater. You just want to make sure the water stays in the 70's. I am finally down to under 300 applesnails myself. Cannas can handle water temps in the high 60's... bridgesii really need it in the 70's.. they can handle the low 80's.. but that is not ideal... will shorten their lifespan.
What size tanks/ containers are they in? How often do you do water changes? Are you keeping the water temps as constant as possible when changing?
Cleaning the outside of the tank may make it look nice... but really... unless you are rubbing the fish up and down the outside of your tank... it is not necessary. ;) Cross contamination can happen when anything goes from one tank to the next. Nets are a biggie. Just becareful you do not get soap in the tank. I usually just rinse well and rub my hands... I only use soap after I am done in the fishroom.
OK.... I am outta here... 38+ hours no sleep and at this point gnats have a longer attention span.
Anyone else.... please chime in. I am flakier than a bakery at the moment. Good luck Styx!! I will keep my fingers crossed they all pull through!!

AHA!!! Drove me insane.... tried to sleep but couldn't... ok... try and google this (sorry.... new to this site so I have yet to figure out how to post links and pictures... and too dain bramaged at the moment to attempt otherwise...)
"pimples" .... try looking up Furunculosis (Aeromonas) ... Furan-2 by aquarium Pharmaceuticals.... pimples on package of meds... **loosing consciousness** big lips/cotton mouth disease... body slime... pimples.. septicemia... damn those pimples!
here... I hope this chart helps.... I have been looking for awhile now... and I am sorry... no brain power left.... lights on.. no one is home.

::::THWAP!!! Head smacks keyboard and drooling in sleep... may be weeks before the marks from the keyboard come off my forehead::::::
Total ramble.... I don't even know for sure what I am looking up.... :computerpunch:

Yeah, bigger than a grain of salt, lots bigger. They’re exactly like Dynasty’s.
Other than his bloated gut he’s normal. No raised scales even on his huge gut. He’s not skinny, but of a nice weight when it comes to the rest of his bod.
I’ll look again at her gill…
Dynasty, Not parasites, we tried that. And we tried meds for it. There’s nothing in her tank at all actually. Just her. It’s large and soft, not fuzzy, not slimy, and it’s raised as I said, like a pimple. Exactly like one. Like a growth. Doesn’t bleed or rupture when poked. When you poke her right on the dots, she doesn’t respond, like she can’t feel it, but if you poke her anywhere else she darts away.
They’re in varying tank sizes and all get WCs at least twice a week, sometimes more. Nobody is in a home smaller than a one gallon.
Tamiko and the other tank HAD a filter, no more because of the meds.
As far as the disinfecting, I will get my hands in the water and them pick up their tanks to carry back. Sometimes I’ll touch the glass (like tap it to wake them up) and then feed the fish or something. Hence the disinfecting of the outside.
Maybe we'll try Dynasty for parasites again. Who knows...

If it looks like a pimple, do try the Furan-2. Good stuff, I've heard. Man... sounds like you got hit all at once with sick fish. I'm glad mine do it 1-2 at a time... and nothing that awful. I think Never2Many hit the rest of it.
With Devika - try Maracyn and Maracyn 2 combo. Could be bacterial, which fungus clear will do nothing for. Just make sure you have a closed container for the snails if you're going to take them out of the tank.

The pain in the butt thing about parasites (oh man... bad image.... you know what I mean though...).... most of them are only able to be nailed at the free swimming stage. So ya have to crank up the heat to speed up the parasite's life cycle... so that hopefully you can nail them all in the course of the treatment. If you treat... but do not use the heat... kinda pointless.... you will still have survivors.
Are the "pimples" under the skin?
Sometimes you encounter a betta with hexamita. They look otherwise normal except for the bloated belly. The coloration of the belly seems lighter. I was talking to someone with a few decades under their belt when it comes to fish... bettas in particular. That is what they mentioned.
Yep.... definately need containment for the snails.... exspecially those wandering females.
Styx - September 2, 2005 07:56 AM (GMT)
Pimples are on top of skin. On Dynasty, the same ones have been there for MONTHS. Somehow, parasites just doesn't seem likely... And they are BIG on her too. Maybe I'll try for photos.
I go out tomorrow. We'll see what meds I can afford to get in addition to filters and fry food. Augh. Need cash. >_<
