Title: Please help Bo...
Description: I think it's the end of him...

Saucy - September 2, 2005 04:20 AM (GMT)
So if you've followed the the never-ending saga of Bo, you know his history... He came from BCBetta in April, shortly after that he developed finrot. He's never recovered from that. He has stubs now (posted pics in a different thread). He had swim bladder problems before. We were fighting columnaris earlier last month, which he fought off. Now it seems like whatever he's had from the beginning is finally going to take him (like it took poor Animal, our other BCBetta fish).

Tonight I found him on his nose. I thought he was dead, but he wasn't. He's currently laying propped up on the side of the tank and his rock cave. He can't seem to get enough energy to eat his brine shrimp.

I don't know what to try... because I don't know what's wrong. I'm assuming that it's probably too late. He's really pale and breathing pretty slowly. I didn't even trying feeding him tonight because I didn't want him to stress himself out trying to get to the top of the water. He currently has colloidal and Blackwater extract in his tank.

Help please...

I'm sorry. :(

How does he look, pale? or just lifeless?
What meds have you tried, if any? I want a refresher...

Uugh, diagnosing them is SO hard to do.

Ut oh..... does he look like he is starting to pinecone? Sounds like possibly the onslaught of dropsy to me. Once they are at that point... maybe 2 days till they pass away.

Fin rot.... and many many other diseases can be avoided with frequent water changes. Once they stress out.... it seems like a downward spiral if you don't get them back up to par and fast.

I do tons of water changes. 1/2g jars get done every day. 5g tanks.. 50% at least every week. Same for 10g tanks. 29g growout... at least 30% every other day. I have a green plakat... Mr sensitive... the second he disapproves of the water conditions... his fins are less full. Not clamped... just I can see he is not happy.

I do not have a water softener... and the water out here dang near clinks when it comes out of the tap.... so I do use 1 teaspoon per 5g.

I went through something similar to you.... I got a betta sent to me... got lost in the mail for a few days... was winter... he arrived SICK and soooooo cold!!! I put him in a 5g and treated with meds... I am not joking when I say I went through hundreds of $ in fish meds. I finally gave up after 6 MONTHS and no improvement. Put him in a jar... ( he had sour spots...fuzzy spots... missing most of his scales on his head... no clue how he was still alive....) Daily water changes... I had another jar next to him.... so the water in it was conditioned and at the same temp as what he was in.

He completely recovered. You may think water changes stress them out..... well that is temporary.... sitting in bad water is even more stressing.

Check his scales... make sure his water is very clean.... add salt. I am sorry to say that he may be beyond assistance.... but you never know... he sounds like a fighter... maybe he can pull through. Use a flashlight to really look him over.

I'm sorry, I can only offer a bit of future advice, too little too late I know, try a salt bath if ever you notice such conditions. There are a few good ones easily found via google.
