Title: Bug is missing a eye!
Mariah - September 4, 2005 03:27 PM (GMT)
When I bought my betta "bug" his eyes seemed big. I was unsure if it was popeye because they didnt get any bigger. I left it alone and everything seemed fine. Well last night when I was investagating all my bettas and I noticed one of his eyes had poped out of his head! :(
Will he be ok?
He is swimming around normally and eating normally as well. I leave today for college so any advice would be great. My mom is going to be looking after all my bettas while im gone.
Thank you :)

Wow - poor little guy. :(
He should be able to live a perfectly normal life with just one eye, as long as his water is kept clean. While his eye socket is healing, you'll need to make sure that whatever happened to his eye - popeye or some bacterial infection - gets cleared up.
I might even consider putting him on a half dose or maracyn or M2 for 5 days, just to be safe. Good luck!

Treat him for popeye. When they have popeye... they look bugged out.... sometimes the eye(s) look hazy or cloudy too. In some of the darker bettas you will see a kind of white circle around it too.
Basically it is an infection building up pressure that makes their eyes bug out.
Listen to Betta Momma.... treat with Maracyn or Maracyn 2. OR Maracyn plus.
FYI.....Maracyn & Maracyn 2 can be used together
BUT... NOT used with Maracyn plus.
Good luck.... have fun at college.... try to fit in some study time.

Bug is currently in a divided tank with 2 other betta boys (Panda and Speckle). Is it ok to treat with the maracyn with these other 2 in the tank as well? Could the maracyn harm my other 2 boys? Panda is under the weather too... He is just hanging near the surface and he is pale. Hes NOT a nice purple anymore. Hes a lavender color... Speckle on the other hand is fine. This info is all according to my mom.
So what should I do guys? :(

Hmm.
I'd be inclined to pull Bug out and treat him separately unless you can first figure out what is going on with Panda first. It's a bad idea to treat a fish for something he doesn't have.
Hmm - have you tested the water in the tank at all?

When I go home from school this weekend I will pull Bug and Panda out of that tank and treat them seperatly. Lucky little speckle will have the whole thing to himself!
I havent tested the water lately but I do weekly water changes so I would think the water would be ok? :hmm:

Could be something in your tap water (i.e. I have ammonia in my tap water). I'd see if you can get it tested at your Petco or Petsmart. Most places do it for free.

Well I went home and Bug and Speckle are perfectly fine :) Panda still seems lathergic :( He seems to perk up when he sees me though.. :hmm: Thats what my mom said at least.
I tested the water and all my stats are good.. Could there be something my tests are not picking up?
