Title: What is your favourite kind of betta
Description: and why?

chevyfan - September 4, 2005 11:12 PM (GMT)
Just like the title says, what is your favourite kind of betta?

I used to love CTs over everything else, then I moved to HM, SuperDelta and Delta's. I never bought any though, because the prices were outrageous, even at the lfs. A Copper HM was $35, and he wasn't even show quality.

Lately I have discovered the beauty of the plakat. I doubt I will ever purchase another long finned betta again. I love all types of plakats, DT, HM, CT, etc...There is just something about the body shape and finnage that gets me excited.

Don't get me wrong, I love my VT mutts. They are the best. They truely appreciate you for taking them out of the misery of a tiny cup and giving them a home with some room and a few live plants. If I found another VT in need of a little TLC I would probably drag it home, space permitting.

What about everyone else? Sorry if this has been posted before, I am new and curious to learn about the other betta fanatics out there.

CT's are my favorites. I think the rays in the tails are absolutely stunning. Not sure why, I just find them more attractive. I have 5 male CT's and 1 female CT.

HM's are my 2nd favorites, their tails are huge! I have 1 HM male and 2 HM females. They seem to have more personality than the CT's however.

VTS and CTS i love VTS though

hm's! they look like flameneco dancers when they are spawning.

I like HM's too. The only drawback to them, I think, is the possibility they will blow their tail because it is too heavy. I am amazed at how different my plakats are compared to my longer finned friends. They have a way about them that I just adore.

Veiltails are my fave.
They're a dime a dozen - the kind that nobody wants.
Funny thing is that I still think they're by far the prettiest of them all too.

I like VT's too. I have 8 of them right now. They come in such interesting colours. I have yet to see 2 the exact same. And sometimes their faces just scream "take me home please". Of course then I do.

The last time I went to my lfs, the girl working there asked me, "so what betta are you going to take home today?" I of course walked out with my DT Kaz.

When I do buy VTs I tend to get the ones that no one else would buy. The ones that aren't very active, or their cup is really dirty. People just don't seem to see the beauty in those boys. They become mine 99% of the time. And the way they change when they get home is amazing. It blows my mind sometimes. I have had fish that I thought were brown, colour up lavendar after a day with me. I love that.

My favorites are halfmoons - especially the metallics. I love the finnage and the whole look of them.

BUT I've recently taken to the HM plakats. I like the simplicity of them. It seems that so many of the newer colors start with the PKs, and I like the more vivid color patterns in them.

I guess I'm a fin guy with the HMs and a color guy with the PKs...

The only bettas I've had were/are veiltails :)
I almost want to say that the girls are my favorite....but my boys are just wonderful as well. :) And since someone wants pictures...I'll post one of each betta babe up.

Fatima-she is my first female, very much full of spark. I think she'll always be my favorite-ist because she was my first female, and gave me confidence that I could keep a fish alive *bought her during my goldie catastrophy* And she's also a comb-tail which got me really excited when I found out, hee hee.

Fabio-he his my second betta, and my first betta boy of the grouping. I loved his coloring, and also call him Mr. Supermodel. He had a finrot issue, which overall is fixed, but he still gets red dots on his rays and has some 'receding fins' going on. I'm trying to keep it at bay with good, clean water and collodial, but may put some maracyn in soon. He really is a sweetie tho, even if he stresses me out :P

Stefano-he's my second betta boy, and the smallest betta I've had! Partially the reason why I got him. ^_^ His tank was a gift from Bill for getting my salon job. He's a wonderful lil' guy...but has some bad tail-biting issues that I hope will be resolved. He is a turkey, but he has also made me the hugest bubblenests I've ever been honored to recieve :D

Danko Jones-he was my 'therapy' betta. I was feeling very depressed the week I bought him. I thought I'd be happy to have a homestead betta, I love watching them here at the apartment, but have none at the homestead yet *aka parents*
I got him because of his coloring and his tail, he was in need of a good home! He's doing mighty well, but did decide to bite his tail up again, but since then it's doing great. Danko also sports a red mustache :D

Sophie-she was also a 'therapy' betta. I bought her after the death of Lolita. I had seen her at Walmart when I bought Danko, but figured with her coloring someone would buy her. I went back on a Wed. to get some test strips and she was STILL there! It had been a full week! I came back that Friday and she was still there, behind some sickly females. I thought I should get one of the rattier ones, but after just experiancing a death in the betta-family, I thought I should get one that seemed healthy. Also I had wanted one of her coloring for a LONG time, but never seen a female of this coloring *or close to* since my jr. year in highschool.
Then I find out she's Albino :D

MLH Fish - September 5, 2005 04:55 PM (GMT)
My fav's are half-sun plakats. Any color, i just love them. lol I've been looking for some halfmoon plakats, since i have a ct female, to see if i can produce some. I don't know exactly what it will take to produce half-sun pk's, but i'm trying to find out. :)

_bagira - September 5, 2005 08:44 PM (GMT)

here's a blue/yellow PK... my favourite colour combo, but i prefer bigger fins

chevyfan - September 5, 2005 09:02 PM (GMT)
This is my mustard gas DT. I found him at the lfs in a small breeding trap hanging in a main tank. He is so adorable.

He is not fully grown yet, so I think his fins will get bigger.

slamster17 - September 6, 2005 12:56 AM (GMT)
i love wild types and plakats

chevyfan - September 6, 2005 04:09 AM (GMT)
Wild types. I love wild types too.

Who am I kidding? I love all bettas, it is impossible to choose a favourite.
