Title: So excited!!!
Description: omg, omg...

MLH Fish - September 6, 2005 06:02 AM (GMT)
I just ran into my room to check on my betta pair. This is like my millionth time attempting to breed. lol Okay, it's my 4th attempt.

Anyways, i just checked on this last attempt (before giving up until i got a different pair) and they were embracing!!!! I'm so excited! I didn't want to stay in there, fearing i'd disturb them(though i have read when they are doing this that they are oblivious to the world)...so i don't have pics of embracing like i wanted to get. Darnit. lol But i'll get pic's of the rest of the process like when they hatch and all. :)

Oh yeah, guess i should tell you what they are. lol they are my dr ct light-bodied cambodian female and my opaque white superdelta male (both of these parent fish also have a light green iridescence on their bodies and fins too). I know there's a chance i could end up with combtails(i've heard i definately will, i might and i'll prolly end up with some), but the local mom and pop already said they'd take the combtails if i get some.

Anyways, i'm just excited to make it to the embracing stage. lol Now i gotta go in there 50 times, to be there at the point where he doesn't want her around anymore.

Yay! :)

Okay, went back in there and i think these things i circled in this pic are eggs....can't tell b/c the flash was on on the camera so it could be flash too. But here's the pic. :)

Uuugggg! I don't know what happened....either i jumped the gun and seperated them too soon or he ate all of the eggs and tore up the bubblenest.

I left them alone for hours after i saw them embracing for the first time....i took her out (well i re-chimneyed her b/c she kept thrashing about and i was worried she'd wreck the nest and scatter the eggs) when he started chasing her away the minute she looked at him. He stayed under the nest pretty much...always looking up. The only time he left is when i would come into the room....so that's why i've been giving him his space.

So i check in on them once a day....well that's how it was going to be until they were free-swimming...then whether he liked it or not, i was going to have to be in there many times. lol

But this morning i got home from work and went in to check on them and the nest is basically gone and the female has a huge belly. She was chimneyed so i know she didn't eat them....so that's why i'm thinking i seperated them too early and jumped the gun. I guess those were just flash reflections in that pic, though when the pic was at it's original size, they looked just like eggs!!

So now i have re-released her and am giving it another go.

Oh and they were both really gentle with each other so far, she has a little nip in her tail but he is untouched. And when i re-released her they rushed up to each other and were displaying for each other....so i guess i just jumped the gun. lol

Oh and someone wanted to know about food for the little ones...i have Hikari First Bites, live baby brine shrimp (actually brine shrimp of assorted sizes), hard-boiled egg yolk, infusoria, and some daphnia gel stuff for when they are older. And frozen beef hearts, brine shrimp, blood worms and daphnia.

Yesterday, I read an article about a breeder (I think his name was Phil) who had over 3,000 spawns. It's always exciting to see new spawns because you never know what you might get :woo:
