how big do tin foils get? and ive seen alot in tanks with larger agressive cichlids do you think there just dithers?

Aquariumfish.net claims they can get up to 14"!

I've heard of many cichlid owners keeping tinfoil barbs as dithers in their tanks.
Haven't tried it myself though.

Tinfoils get pretty big. Ive seen them in public aquariums at around 14+ inches. Ive got one that I keep with my oscar. I know a lot of people in the states use them as dithers but around here they go for about $50-$100 depending on size.

If I want dithers ill take $5 bala sharks and silver dollars any day.

One time, I got 3 free tin foil barbs from a guy that couldnt take care of them anymore. I didnt have any other tanks running at the time except for my 55g that had my Oscar. Boy, did my oscar hate their presence, as he was always picking their scales off and trying to eat the, and during that time, he was about 6in. Days later I gave them away but they died on their drive home to their new home :banghead: . Beautiful fish though, gives the tank a nice glimmer.

I love tinfoils, unfortunately when they stopped importing the price went through the roof, their available at lfs around 3" to 4" for $150 + :banghead: :cuss:

I can get tinfoils for $20 these days.

They do make awesome dithers and get big fast.

I saw a tin foil at a state aquarium...I swore that thing must had been 2 feet...

i have 4 tinfoil barbs i think they get to around 15inches mine are around 13in now

my convicts/parrots killed my tinfoil barbs and they were larger then the convicts/parrots
