Reached into the fish food this morning and withdrew my hand for a most disgusting surprise. An earwig was on my hand. I flicked it off (dropping what food I had in that hand) found the vile bug and picked it up with a hand towel. Taking it to the bathroom I’d just planned to kill it, but a more sinister thought came to mind… >=3

So I rinsed it off, and snipped off it’s pincers in the back. I then took it to one of my fish tanks and… in it went.

It’s the divided five-gallon with Akako and Huang (Devika died). So Akako got first round. She was intrigued by its wriggling legs and kept biting it over and over again, but wouldn’t eat it or kill it, just kept biting it, amusing herself by biting.

So I put it in the other side and Huang slammed into it and tore it from the surface of the water, gripping it between tiny teeth. She swam to the bottom and released it, then seized it again, just as hard. A few more of these and it stopped moving. She then ate it.

This all took a couple of minutes.

Take that damn earwig! Death by fish biting!

Let this be a warning to all earwigs- come in here and I will do the same.

Kinda unrelated, but I was getting my LFS owner to order in some Hikari brand frozen bloodworms for me because the brand they usually carry are too big for my juvies' tiny mouths, and when she opened up her special order book to write it down there was a big ol' earwig sitting on the page :lol:

She's a real animal lover, even insects, so she was like "Oh! Come on mr. earwig..." and gently scooped him into the cricket bin. I don't like to kill insects either, but I make exceptions for mosquitos and fire ants :P

I can't stand earwigs.

They eat my fish food, they BECOME fish food! RAR!

SICK!!! I know there were some sort of larva that were in Jason's bottle, but he noticed before he dumped them out. Needless to say, they went right into the garbage.

I hate earwigs!!! Good to know they aren't poisonous to the fishies, any i stumble upon here again just might become fish food.

This is what i did to an earwig the other day when it scared the shit out of me in the bathroom. I grabbed a can of hairspray that's been in the bathroom since like the 80's(seriously, i haven't used it since junior high and no one else here uses hairspray lol)...anyways, i sprayed that damn earwigh til it was coated in hairspray. Then in a matter of a few minutes, it was dead. Ha! I thought about lighting it on fire too, but it was on the linoleum floor and fire and linoleum does not mix. lol

Anyways, i really, really, really hate earwigs they are creepy looking and i heard they pinch hard! I know the cats chase them when they find them in the bathroom...but they aren't the smartest of cats. lol :)

Totally MHL. Can't stand them and we have them EVERYWHERE. They are even killing our trees.

Yeah, the girls that ate it are fine. I've also tried feeding them weevils. They like to bite them, but not many fish like to eat them, though some loooove them.

Great! Now I know that my babies can get some live food once in a while! I hate those things, they are very yucky.

:lol: I am deathy afraid of anything that moves besides humans and bettas and worms (I have to feed my fish ya know) so if I ever encounter an earwig, I'm going to yell at the top of my lungs "DAAAD!!! THERE'S A BIG INSECT IN THE BATHROOM!!"

I ALWAYS make my dad come get bugs out of my room. I just can't kill them... something about the crunching sound... *shudder*
