Title: Fat Betta
Description: Any dieting tips?

One of my girls, Victoria, is a little pig. I know we all say that, but she really is!! She is almost twice the size of the other girls, even Lita who is older and larger is not nearly as big around. I thought at first she might be egg bound, or constipated, but after observing her for several days, she's overeating big time. She has plenty of energy, doesn't seem to have any ill effects other than being fat, and no symptoms of any illness.

She is the first one at the top of the tank in the morning, snatching up pellets like crazy and then going for the zebra danios' flakes. When everything is gone from the top, she starts on the bottom looking for anything that may have gotten down there. I don't intentionally over feed, but I do have to make sure the frogs get their bloodworms and with her around it is next to impossible. If she sees one of the other girls spit a pellet out before it's eaten she dives to snatch the pellet away. I've seen her fight with a ghost shrimp over a piece of pea, (she won) and she even eats the algae wafers I throw in for the plec. I really hate to take her out of the big tank, because the girls really get along well, but I'm worried she's going to eat herself to death. I've thought about a breeder net at feeding time, but the thought of trying to catch her in a 20g tank with tons of hiding places and plants would really be a challenge.

Anyone ever have to put their betta on a diet? Any suggestions of how I could limit her food and still get everyone else fed?

HELP!!

I was going to also suggest the breeder net method too.
It sounds like you could lure her up to the top with some pellets and then whammo, scoop her up.

My 2 huge yeevia girls are like that - they bodyslam everyone else out of the way at feeding time. I actually have to lure a few of the others down to the other end of the tank with my fingers and dump in pellets on both ends of the tank.

I feel your pain :)
