I agree with vip, it really depends on what you are planning on keeping. Let us know what you wanna keep and we can give u the hardy fish of that species jay

what is it your wanting to do here? There are many hardy fish of many varying sizes. WIthout more information there's no good starting point for us to know which way to go here! We need information like tank size, if you like tropicals or cichlids ect....
Thanks!

Ive a 50g tank. Im interested in peaceful community fish, some shoaling fish and maybe a few interesting beauties when im a bit more experienced.

Things like your guppies, platies, mollies, swordtails (all fancy colours and patterns available) Angels, Gouramis especially, and like a bit fishy mentioned, cories are pretty hardy too. :)

unless your TFC username is Fishy411. cory's are EVIL
a stocking list for a 50 (hypothetical. i dont know what you really want)
2 angels
4 swordtails
4 guppies
1 or 2 bristlenose plecs
6 endlers livebearers
8 lemon tetras.
id try 6 or 8 cories if you want but make sure theyre a hardy species.
i dont know if you would like that but you can pretty much substitue any fish in thats a similiar size

If I had a 50 gallon tank to start off with and didn't know much about fish;
Green Corys
Common pleco
Tiger Barbs
Swordtails
Angelfish
and some type of Tetras or Danios
Some people conplain about the tiger barbs going after the fins of the swords and or angelfish, I never had a problem with my 20 gallon, but I'd still keep an eye as different people have different problems. Just like I had a problem with my angelfish. I had 2 of them and the one started attacking the other, that's when I learned they usually should be kept in odd numbers 1-3-5 etc.

I would keep it simple and just go with a shoal of six congo tetra's and 3 clown loaches. This is what my girlfriend set up as her first tank. Both species are very hardy and extremly beautiful.

Our pleasure! :D Have you decided on any species or group of fish you would like?

rummy nose and harlequins would also be fantastic in a community tank...

Be very careful with angelfish - they can grow very quickly, and get very aggressive towards everything!
I would consider a school of glass cats, and khulis can be very hardy. Likewise Peacock Gudgeons, which are very pretty and active.
When you are a little more experienced check out the German Rams - they are beautiful, and not very aggressive.

I've found black widow tetras (skirt tetras) to be quite hardy, and bristlenosed catfish. :)
With guppies, if you can get the feeder/not-so-pretty varieties, they're all the more hardy. :P
I don't think corydoras are hardy... Nor sailfin mollies... :cuss:
I've found my siamese algae eater to be quite the tough-nut, too - but I reckon that'd be too big for a 50gal? Not sure. (Used to litres.)

ack black widows!!! use to love em now i cant stand em! my parents havw a community set up going and we bought like 8 of em, and they all died within 2 weeks!
Hristaky - December 23, 2005 02:28 PM (GMT)
if ur talking about black skirted tetras??? they were already sick from the store
those fish tolerate the biggest changes in their habitat without actualy being stressed out and dying
again
if you want realy hardy fish i will go with black skirted tetras and rosy barbs which I have found are very hardy
so are tiger barbs
finally, if you realy like colourful fish, i suggest getting a few guppies (2-3 females to male) and then trying to create your own line
it is amazing
only after about 4 generations, i managed to have most of the fish with same colour pattern :D
i only have 1 male left because i have a killer filter which sucks them up
from my experience cory catfish are great but do not pick albinos since they are less hardy and prone to skin cancer
other than that everything else mentioned
