We should add a section on gars if people get interested. they are really awesome fishes. i'd say they fit into the oddball section

For this being the oddball section, I suppose gars would fit in. Vip has set the forums so that every single type of fish (excluding saltwaer at this point in time) can fit into every category.

Speaking of gars I've only seen one gar for sale at my store and it was $1000. :blink:

yeh im pretty sure gars fit into this forum, i think the fish at the top just give members a genral idea of what type of fish go in this section

I'm from australia, queensland. A matter of fact, the gar kinda looked like the one you own. It was dark coloured and about 8 inches long just sitting at the bottom of the tank.

prolly an alligator gar. they are native here in the southern US

Garfish belong here as they are a primitive fish with specialist needs, they are also quite susceptible to certain medications, require special care when picking tank mates and diet and are just plain freaky!
As such all gar questions are welcome here :)

Also, in Aus it is illegal to import many species native to other countris without a permit. And i dont see to many gars around my fls stores, so id assume prices here would be 10 fold what they are in the US ! :)

in the wild alligator gars get 10 feet. in tanks, 8 is more likely. as soon as we buy a house, we're building a pond for them :D
