Title: Considering a new tank mate for my Tiger!
Oddball - November 11, 2005 06:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah im just considering a new tank mate for my psuedoplatysoma tigrinis (formerly metrodontis tigrinis) and would appreciate suggestions
The tanks 8x3x2 foot, strong current, sandy bottom with a big mangrove root tangle, ph of 6, soft with a strong current. the new inhabitant must not be able to inflict harm to this very very delicate fish (and exspensive), and must not be able to be eaten either, as the tigrinis is in effect a form of tiger shovelnose (hence its recent re classification!) any way im interested in what you guys thing and ill compare notes with you soon :)

Well I have no idea on how much money you have or want to spend, but my suggetions just off the top of my head.
A ray or 2 (leo)
4 X large Datnoid Pulcher
1 X large Fei Feng
1 X Asian Aro (dont know what kind you would want)
Maybe a few birchirs of your choice
Some HUGE clown loaches.
Maybe even a type of cichla but might have probs with the rays.

Dude i paid £350 for this fella...........and since then the price has gone up, i know where i could get my hands on a HUGE leopoldi for £320, probably "£250 coz im a regular and a friend of the store keeper!
The bichirs, only enderlichii enderlichii screams to me, coz i love watching those big fat beasts cruise round on their own not givving a damn!
I would NOT under ANY circumstance put in cichlas or Arros in this tank, its the tigers tank, not theirs, and they tend to be too skitzo or crazed in any case! NO harm must be posed to the tigrinis

Yeah you may have probs with the cichla but I really dont think you would have troubles with the aro.
A lot of ppl do it with no dramas. If youre not willing to risk something it kinda restricts your options. But I see where you are coming from.

How big is Tiger at the moment?
Ive got one coming in some time this months which im going to be selling once im happy its eating and healthy.
Ive tryed thinking what else could go with yours, all ive come up with so far is possably a spotted gar?
Or perhaps some nice Geophagus sp. Tapajos, which funny enough I know someone selling some nice ones of also
Cant really think of other top/middle swimmers that would go and also look the part... if anything else springs to mind i'll add dont you worry
