Of course they breed, or they wouldn't exist ;) I don't know if I understand this question corectly but as for standing on their tail, I can only assume that you think they walk like that, but they actually drag them selves with their pectoral fins.

...*sigh*

It dosen't matter if they can breed or not...you have a tank NO WHERES NEAR the size they can live in when they mature...they probably don't even breed in captivity...:S

despite breeding or not, the walking catfish is a bad pet in general, as they can escape and live for months outside the water, they often go into "dormancy" by burring themselves in mud for several months till the rainy season comes back.

They stand on their tail and fins a lot, because this is how they "walk" they use their tail and pectoral fins as "legs"

I wouldn't recommend this fish to anyone, they can grow to 60 cm which is about 2 feet in the USA. they need very large tanks well over 4 ft wide and 8-10 ft long as adults, they need a good sturdy lid that is weights with bricks or can be clamped tightly shut.

here is a good article, the only thing wrong with it is the tank size it mentions is far to small. but it does discuss breeding, which in captivity can not be done inside a tank.

either way you look at this fish paul, we've told you its not suitable for you, its venomous, its ravenous, it escapes, and its "standing on its tail" is an effort by the fish to get its head near the surface of the water as thats where theres the most oxygen, your water does not have enough oxygen to allow it to lay down on the bottom where he should be

the best advice I can give about walking catfish is always use a leash. And please be courteous and pick up after it does its business.
