Title: Tall Tank Update
Description: Bringing them down to size?

My niece has informed me that not many people do up tall tanks and that low and long is the way to do it. Well, the problem being is that whenever I have needed a bigger tank, I have gone upwards. I got rid of a 10 for a 20 X-high. I got rid of a 20 high for a 29 X-high. And finally I have a 37 I ditched a 29 for. i have always liked the look of the high tanks but doing things with them is difficult. I do have to admit I like the 37 gallon as an all around good size, both long and tall. The 29 X-high is maintainence un-friendly but, you use what you have to work with right? Well I have been working on making it a display quality tank. I will post a Before pic and a few after shots. Gimme as much criticism and tips you would like.... Minus the fact it has no background ;)

How the heck you post multiple pics in a post?

Oh and also it's still a work in progress. I am waiting for the silicone to dry on a retaining wall for the side of the lower plastic jug. The higher one I will probably cover up with some vals, more dwarf swords, and the like.

Haha nice! xD Best tall tank setup I've seen...
PS. I haven't seen many xD
I would say try and make some of your own background... or just glue your ornaments onto your tank :) it sometimes look nice... like if you have a tube on it :)

I would suggest some of those Walmart wonder bulbs, the plants will grow as tall as the tank and help tie it all together, and bring the focus upwards. What's in it?

Right now I have a juvenile Firemouth, a grey leprechaun pleco, 2 female bettas, 5 head and tail tetras, and 12 rummynose tetras. As for lighting, I have a 12 inch twin flourescent lamp and a halogen desk lamp on it now. I am working on building a twin compact flourescent hood with 3 undercabinet halogen disks to penetrate the depths.

I despise tall tanks...but that set up is looking good.
I want to play with that Pleco again...

It is starting to look pretty neat. You are most deffinently getting kind of creative with this. Could you show us some close ups of things? That would be super cool!!

Good aquascape, 'stang. What is the tall white thing the plant is sitting in on the left It looks like something with filter wool in it?

Lower level, Sunny Delight jug, California style I believe. Upper level, Wawa diet iced tea jug. Filled with upside down plastic cups ventilated to allow air to escape. Larger rocks and miscelaneous gravel, then topped with the tank gravel.

And would I be right in guessing that they will get covered in algea and become part of the decoration? That is a great way of adding height to the layout!
