Title: diy pleco hideouts
cich1 - December 9, 2005 01:35 AM (GMT)
so i was bored today and decided to make some caves/hideouts for my plecos. i ran down to the hardware store and grabbed (2) 1'x4" abs pipes.when i got them home i made sure to deburr the rough edges with some sand paper and washed them up and dried them before i started. i used some aquarium silicone i had laying around and coated the pipes thoroughly. then i rolled them in playsand so they would match my substrate. i also did the small 2" pvc i had in my 55. in a couple days they should be cured and done outgassing so i can put them in the tanks, i'll get more pics up when they are in the tanks.
IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT I GOT THIS IDEA FROM A THREAD SEEDY POSTED ON ANOTHER FORUM AWHILE AGO, THANKS FOR THE IDEA BUD.:)

Awesome. I've been wanting to do that to some of my tunnels/pot plants. (For my bristlenoses.)
Where do you get aquarium silicone from?

i got it at the hardware store ages ago. but i believe any 100% silicone is safe to use as long as it's not the stuff with mildewcide in it(silicone designed for use in kitchens and baths and also on windows have mildewcide). it is also cheaper and you get more for your money.
just be sure to let it cure for at least 48 hours before putting it in your tank.
