Title: New pintail platy missing half a fin!

Mariah - December 22, 2005 01:56 AM (GMT)
Hi everyone,
Today, I went to petsmart and bought two beautifull pintail platys :) One is orange with 3 black dots on his tail, the other is yellowish color with with a black tail. As I sit here staring at my fish  I notice that my yellow platy, one of his fins is half missing and it does not move... Is she going to be ok? She swims around just fine.
Thanks!

If she doesn't seem to be bothered, she will probably be okay. I'd put in lots of stress coat and hope for the best. :) It will probably grow back.

Was it like this when you got her or has she injured it since she got home?

I am not sure when she hurt her fin. I didnt notice it in the store but that does not mean it wasent there. I always have the worst luck when it comes to adding fish to my tank. My orange platy was just laying on the bottom... Now hes swiming around so we shall see what the night brings. My yellow girl is hiding at the back of the tank so again, Ill see how they are in the morning.
Thanks for the advice :)

My orange platy just died. :rip:

Aww, no - I'm sorry. :\ And it wasn't even the one with the torn tail.
Hope the other one goes okay.

It's possible that the orange one was pregnant or just given birth and was very stressed by the move.

The orange platy was a male so I dont think he was pregnant BUT I do think it was the stress that killed him. Poor little guy :( My yellow girl is still alive so thats good but I seem to of lost a cardinal tetra last night! But I cant find the body!!

What bottom feeders do you have?
I hardly ever had a chance to remove dead fish, especially small ones, from my tanks - my bristlenoses get to them too quick.

I have 2 corys and a algea eater. But wait, I did find the neon. He was floating in the weeds at the top of my tank. You know what sucks though, the store I bought the neons from says they will replace the neon at half the purchase price. I think that ridicilious. Why should I have to pay again for a fish Ive had for 3 days?? I wont be buying fish from Big Als again. At least with my platy, he has a 15 day return policy and I can get my money back if I want. I want another platy but still, petsmarts policy is so much better.

I don't think any of the stores around her provide any kind of return policies. "I sell healthy fish, but once they're sold, they're not my responsibility."
