Title: Keep Getting Deposits
Description: Near trickle filter siphon to sump

This is the point where a hose connects to my tank and siphons out water, from this hole, into the sump at the bottom.

Not pretty. Any way I can stop this? It's easy enough to wash off, but still annoying to have to do...
It also keeps tricking me into thinking that my tank is fucked (broken).

so i take it that's the bulkhead right above the clamp there? looks like the bulkhead isn't sealed. or am i looking at the wrong thing? you're talking about the stuff on the back of the tank right?

Yes, I'm talking about the white 'leaks' coming from the tank. I don't know what a bulkhead is, so I looked it up and yes, I think that's the thing up the top (protruding from the tank).

I was really worried about tightening it too much and shattering the glass... Is this likely? Or... ? :?:

it should have a seal that goes between the tank and the bulkhead fitting(usually rubber). you don't want to overtighten it because it may damage the seal. i would take it apart, clean all the mating parts up real good make sure you don't have any burrs or rough spots anywhere and reassemble it making sure the bulkhead is snug but not over tight. if it still leaks you can lube the seal with some petroleum jelly, it may help seal it.

Okay, awesome, thank-you - I will give that a go sometime. Hopefully I won't have these yucky marks anymore. jay

There is a piece of rubber somewhere around there. Should it be on the inside or outside?

When we got the tank we didn't really get many instructions, we just had the bulkhead and that was it. My dad and I set up the whole trickle filter - so you're help is much appreciated. :)

no problem, i just had to fix mine yesterday.:D

on mine there are actually 2 rubber seals, one on the inside and one on the outside. if you only have one i would put it on the outside.

Yep, that's where it is now. :) I'll take it off, give it a clean and tighten it a little bit more than how it is presently - hopefully that works! :dunno:
