Vip - April 23, 2005 03:52 AM (GMT)
I havnt been in a while but im going to go again pretty soon, im going to go catch a eel tailed catfish but i want to get one thats at least 12" or more and i hear there pretty common at that size to and also im going to try to get some gudgeons but i dunno what type, the only hard thing is getting them home on the 3 hour trip. anyone got anything that they catch and bring home?

There are plenty of small ornamentals u could catch if it wernt illegal around my area! :) But i havnt tried the river across the road yet, although its only seasonal. Ill give it ago. What methods do u use vip? Im guessing fish trap andf hand nets?

I go fishing all the time. Ive caught barrumundi and saratoga. I dont like barramundi so I dont keep them and the wild caught saratoga that my mates have kept are extremely phsyco and often jump out of the tank, not much personality at all.

Ill go fishing for mangrove jack one day and ill probably keep one. Some of my mates even catch lungfish but I think they are illegal to keep so they dont risk getting caught.

used to fish all the time but havent lately, dont have a really good excuse eithert :D

Punkypuffer - April 23, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
dude! you know how much australian lungfish are worth in the US? they are extremely expensive, like 500 bucks for a small one. the africans are only around 80 or so.

anyhow, we go fishing every now and then. but we don't get any good stuff. sunfish, largemouth bass too big for the tank, etc. there are some places we can catch texas cichlids and stuff tho

I go fishing about every other weekend or so...Right now we are trying to catch the crappie spawing up on the bank...ended up getting them on minnows in about 15-20foot of water....I also caught a 8.5lb "Mississippi white" catfish...a couple of nice bass, and monster carp that I thought was going to be the mother of all crappie till I got it up to the surface....

I might go get some LR and nennys soon, but there are no freshwater fish worthy of note in AK, well we have burbot, which are cool but big.

Edit: Greyling too, but they need uber clean water.

OH catch AND bring home...you mean not to eat! lol....

I have used large styrofoam boxes that they use to ship frozen goods in to bring home a few channel cats that I've caught to stock a local pond....also some perch......That was only about an hour drive though....

I'd strongly recomend a throw net in the shallows for finding unusual fish. they take some time to master, but that's how the pro cichlid catchers in SA/CA do a lot of their finding....that or walking the shallows with a sein net....

:D as much as I can! there are a few lakes and ponds close to work.

Vip - April 24, 2005 02:43 PM (GMT)
Thats cool, we have some lakes and rivers close to me like 5min drive but alot of them are full of carp but somtimes you can get Red Fin (dont know what there called over seas)

Seedy - April 24, 2005 10:04 PM (GMT)
Yeah VIP there are tons of rivers and farm ponds worth fishing just a few minutes from where I live in Tulsa....I can pretty much go fishing any time I feel like it (and I do quite often!)

mr_miagi32 - April 25, 2005 04:04 AM (GMT)
Ive got my own spot on the Murray river vip! My friend from school owns a dairy farm that runs along the river so i am able to break from the usual spots where u have all those loud ass weekenders who go for a booze up! And its only 25min drive.

I catch ALOT just on worms. No need to use bearly cause all the noisy kids scare them down my way! Ive gotten silver perch, carp, red fin, and one unknown.....

My brother carl and i camping with a carp...caught 2 each that day
