I resuced a betta from Petcetera who is very sick. He was in filthy water with chunks of brown stuff floating around. He has fungas growing on him and in adidition has a swim bladder problem. He is having trouble swiming to the top of his container I have him in. What medications can you guys advice? Bettamom where are you!!

I have added Maracyn because of his fungas. He has fungas coming out of his gills as well as he has it on his body. Poor little guy. I have named him Peanut.

I've used jungle fungus eliminator (from wal mart) to cure that stuff before.. It's really strong though so if you decide to get it don't over-do it..
Pimafix is what I use now.. it treats fungus too.

Usually floating at the top of the tank is a sign of Bloat....
Maracyn I and II are the best medications, OR you can not feed him for a few days (it could get up to 6 days of no feeding) until it dies down.
Bloat is caused by too much air in the stomach and what not (yes i know bettas take air from the surface to breathe) so give him some time to let the air out (AKA DEFLATE ;)) and then feed him little bits at a time once he's a bit better... But still treat him with the maracyn

Hey thanks for everyones advice. He has made it through the night! He is trying to swim and it doesnt look pretty but it looks better than yesterday so I am going to keep dosing with maracyn and hope for the best. BTW, he does not have bloat... He has a fungus problem and a swim bladder problem.
