Title: Loach schoaling behavior question

dtroup2 - January 1, 2006 11:48 PM (GMT)
If I got 1 each of Clown, Khuli and Yoyo loaches would they consider each other a schoal? What I mean is would they display the normal behavior that they do when they have others of their own kind?

The clown and yoyo may (I've never owned either). Kuhlis are very different to the other two, so I wouldn't think they'd school with them, if at all. When I had kuhlis, they used to hide out together under things, but when they strayed from the hideout they did so independently.

I have both Clowns and Kuhlis though not in the same tank and I can safely say, no they won't. Clowns for one thing, get much bigger and are a more active fish that have little in common habit-wise with Kuhlis who prefer to stay near the bottom of the tank and hide a lot. YoYo's I've got no experience with but I doubt they would shoal with Clowns or Kuhlis either. The behavior of all three fish is probably not compatible for that kind of thing.

I agree with Teelie. The schooling habits are alot differant. I do have 3 botia angelicus that school with my clowns from time to time. A single clown loach is an unhappy clown loach. IMO get at least 2 more clowns.

well said jgoslee!

ITs a a deffinite no for this one

Pakistanii loach (yo yos) are psychos anyway, if its nice now it wont be in 6months time lol...........

Khullii are totally different in familly make up to the botias, haveng no similar social or anatomical make up i doubt they would ever shoal, except form to maybe have the khuuli for luch!

how ever clowns and botia modesta (red or yellow finned loach) will shoal, its intersting to watch them, clowns are more active, but the modesta follow them around at feeding time and lights out
