Monos are fantasticly shaped fish, resembling a crsecent moon shape. They are mostly peacefull fish and have no qualms with mixing with other fish and are ideal with puffers, scats and other types of monos. The draw back to the mono sebae is that it is a large fish and a tank size of at least 50 gal!
This fish loves neutral to alkaline water (7-8.5pH) and as such should be provided with it in a hard water environment, being from africa they thrive on warmer conditons so a temp of 26-28 degrees C is beneficial for this fella.
Similat to the archer fish, monos spawn in true marine environments, but they adjust to these conditions over time, so i would recommend the following course of action. Keep juveniles in a near fresh water environ ment and slowly with your water changes graduallly increase the salinity of the water. Also the rate of growth and colouration of these fish seems to improve, rather than just a silver fish with black stripes, they grain a beautiful yellowy gold along the top of their body.
Adults spend most of their time in a marine environment, and as such i'm now interested in setting up a mono/archer tank and understocking it massively (maybe my huge one) and gradually turn it marine? This will be a worthwhile project for any one with a large amount of time available to them :D
