Title: I'm so sick of my Mbuna....
Description: Mbuna do not belong in a 3ft tank...
Seedy - April 23, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
OK I'm pissed at my fish...Stupid Mbuna...(stupid me for thinking I could do it in a 3ft tank...)...I am so sick of finding a fish that I have put more than a years time into keeping killed or almost killed, just a few hours after they were fine....this morning I found my demasoni almost blind, beat the hell up and pinned down by my two C. afra males today(I'm not sure he will make it )...the iso-box is allready holding a hongi who was almost killed last week...and they killed a hongi the week before too.....Oh, and I also just took a peacock back to the store who I'd had for more than a year cus they almost killed him too....OK Mbuna are psychotic killers in small tanks....anyone who thinks they belong in less than a 75 gallon tank is seriosly tempting fate....
I will no longer recomend Mbuna to be kept in anything short of 75 gallons. I know I have said differently (a lot differntly in some cases)in the past...but I am sick of losing fish to aggresion
Mbuna do not belong in less than a 5 foot tank! It may work for 6 months...it might (with carefull management) last a year...but eventually you just cant have 10 or more full grown Mbuna running around a 3ft tank...they will kill each other!
NE ways....Untill the time comes when I have at least a hundred gallon tank...I am DONE with Mbuna....If anyone would like my Cynotilapia sp. "mbweca" f1 or my marmalde cats or my white top afra or a L. "hongi" and can pick up in Tulsa OK let me know...I hate to let them go...but I can't deal with losing another fish to stupid psychotic aggresion....
MAKE MINE A "TANG" PLEASE! :wtf:

I agree with you. I think a 55 is too small for a mixed mbuna community. This size is better suited to species tanks, and then ideally it would be the smaller mbuna types. There just isn't enough "running" room for fish to hide from hyperdominating aggressors. It is an ideal size for many tangs. Good luck with that.
Here's to that future, LARGER mbuna tank that I know you'll eventually get! :drunk:
