Title: Urgent Question
Description: Salt + New Worlds = ?
ShadowElite951 - January 20, 2006 09:33 PM (GMT)
I have a ich problem in my 55 gallon now. I need to no asap if I can use salt on new worlds. I want to get rid of it before it starts to spread to all of my fish. My new worlds include Texas, Firemouth, Convicts, and Jack Dempsey. I'm transporting my Tire Track Eel, three Plecos, Rainbow Shark and a Loach to a 20 gallon hospital tank.
I need a answer soon...I'm totaly stressed and pissed off now. I have ich in all three of my tanks and don't have enough medication and money atm...GRRR :banghead: :banghead: :cuss:

Yes you can use salt with new worlds. I've never treated ick any other way than by raising the temp and adding salt.

Thank you some much for the quick reply. I'm going to run up to the store and get some salt.

I reckon the raising of the temp is more important than the salt. Bump it up to about 81 or 82F

I actually use a more aggressive aprouch. Most strains of Ich cannot reproduce at temperatures above 85ºF. So I slowly raise the temperature to 86ºF, while maintaining surface agitation to oxygenate the water. I do this in conjuction with salt for no less than three days after all signs of the parasite have disappeared.

Yes.. salt is fine with ich and the new world's
And Goslee is right too by raising the temperature...
although if you go with the salt it will create more of a slime coating for the fish which will protect against ich from forming again
but if you have any sort of cory cat, pleco, etc.. NO SALT.. they won't be able to handle the salt and will kill them

I've already raised my temp...thats the first thing I do when I spot ich. But I raise the temp close to 90. :dunno: It always worked for me.

Argh. Not according to one of my fish stores. :dickhead:
I was having trouble with my sailfins and they said, "Add salt."
I said, "Nah, I can't - I've got cories."
They said, "Oh, that'll be fine."
I added salt. Guess what died? :cuss:
Sorry for the hijack.. :shy:
