hey yall my wife's b-days coming up in feburaury and im thinking about getting her a saltwater aquarium i want to make one that will hold about 4 clownfish like nemo  shes in love with that movie
how much would it cost?
how big should the tank be?
and how much maintenance will it be?
Well the minimum tank I would reccommend is a 30 gallon As to how much It depends if you are going towards a reef tank or a fish only tank if it is a reef then expect to spend at least 1000 dollars if fish only expect to spend at least about 400 U.S dollars give us more information as to what you want to keep. As for maintenance some things you will do is empy skimmer cup at least once every one to two weeks just depends how well it works water changes every one two two weeks algea scrapingwhenever neccesary. feeding every other day.water top off that is if you are going with fish only know if you go reef then there is going to be more maintenence.
Well, usually clownfish are intolerant of eachother unless in a pair. If you introduce them all at almost the same time you may be able to house them together with no trouble. For the tank, you may want to go higher than a 30 if you want 4 clowns.
Cost is a very hard thing to tell someone, everybody's tanks will cost different amounts because no one buys the same kind of things or sets them up the same.
Just to kind of put it in perspective... my little 10 gallon is over 300 the last time I checked...kind lost track of it though.
When you first set the tank up there will be some troubles and it will be the hardest part, afterwards, if set up right, it's usua;;y quiet and not a whole lot of maintenance is needed. There is the feeding thing, cleaning the skimmer if you get one, and the like. Otherwise it's not a really time consuming thing unless you have a reef or something.
It seems as if the previous two post covered you pretty well. As mentioned a few more details of what the game plan is would indeed help us guide you a bit more accurately.
I would from personal experience recommend at least a 30 gallon tank and possibly a 40 gallon breeder might be a better choice. A skimmer would be highly recommended as well. It is true what was previously posted about clown fish. If you want to mix more than a couple I would highly recommend False Perculas with true Perculas a close second. Dont even try this with Maroon Clowns...as just pairing up a couple of Juveniles is a tough act to pull off as it is.
Do some thinking, do some research, then decide what it is you want to do and we will help you along the way as best we can.
BTW...Lucky Gal...now if I could find a guy to buy me a reef tank.....
