Title: Eggs
limegirl - February 3, 2006 05:26 AM (GMT)
After a year of being convinced I have a male female pair, they have proved me right! Eggs!

I myself have two farwella cats. How can you tell the m/f difference? Did they lay their eggs on the glass, or are they stuck to the bottom of the cat? Congrats! by the way :woo:

Cool pic!! Congrats on the eggs!

You can tell by the bristles - the males have tiny little bristles - their noses look 'hairy'. I reckon they are different in the ventral area as well.

Thanks, Limegirl. Well spoken, short and to the point. No further questions your honor.

Ok mabye one more. Water parameters? Temp.,ph, need caves?
limegirl - February 4, 2006 05:41 AM (GMT)
I dont ever test water, so I can't tell you the parametres, except that the temp is about 25-26C. It is a two footer, planted with substrate, shared with one adult male and four juvinile Peacock Gudgeons. There is a lot of algae.
The eggs, and male, are right on the front glass of the aquarium, in excellent viewing position! This is consistent with what I have read about them laying in the strongest current. In this case, opposite the hang on filter.
Some eggs were scattered underneath, on the gravel, and were so sticky I had to remove the gravel with them. I have put these in a fry saver in another tank, so we'll see what happens.
Mum and Dad have been in this tank for about six months, with no changes to the tank or inhabitants, but I have had them about a year. I never thought they were going to do anything - let alone breed! I don't even see them feeding.
Anyway, good luck 'fishy, and I'll keep y'all posted.

:kewl: I love how you can see the fry through the egg. How long till they hatch?

I think about 6 days in total - it is "our" first attempt, so I can only go off what it says on verious intenet sites, and stuff.

dtroup2 - February 6, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
Are they attached to the glass or to dad and has he been staying there guarding them the whole time?
limegirl - February 7, 2006 04:28 AM (GMT)
They are attached to the glass - and dad has only moved away for a very short time once or twice.
