i am doint a cycle with my betta and snail in the tank. i have read articles and been on a few forums and everyone tells me something diffrent.
do i do partial water changes daily to keep ammonia, etc down?
what do I need to do to have my fish live through the cycling process?
someone told me not to feed them for a week.
someone else said its okay.
someone told me not to change the water for two weeks
someone else told me to change some nearly daily
someone said i need a test kit
someone else said hes had fish for 30 years and never used one.
its just stuff like this. everyone tells me something diffrent. and i cannot find many articles on cycling with bettas.
by the way its a 5.5 gal with a heater and filter.

manda, there is a pinned topic in this section with some very helpful links in it that may clear some of this up for you. it's titled "useful info about the nitrogen cycle".
in my opinion a test kit is very important when initially cycling a new tank.

Feed them no matter what i reckon as they will need to keep there energy up, also bettas are a hardy fish

I've never cycled a Betta tank before and I've had no problems with it. I feed my bettas 2-3 times a day even after water changes. *I preform a 25% water change once every 3-5 days.* If the tank is filtered, do a 10-25% water change once every 7-10 days. I'd recommend getting a Nitrate and Ammonia test kit.

Just curious, you do have a filter on the tank right?
f not then you really wouldn't cycle the tank.
I only ask because bettas are not keen on currents.
